If you want something amusing, quirky, light but good, I think you should take a look at Jasper Fforde's books. (I thought about recommending him to you for catervalibre.) I bought two of his books and went to see him talk at the local bookshop just on the strength of almost laughing out loud at the title of his new book (First Among Sequels) in Forbidden Planet last summer! Very pleased I did; I now have and have read all his books and I'm hoping that he is busy writing the next installment. There are two series, the Thursday Next series and the Jack Spratt/Nursery Crimes Division series. I prefer the Thursday series. The Thursday Next books are:
The Eyre Affair
Lost in a Good Book
The Well of Lost Plots
Something Rotten
First Among Sequels

And the Jack Spratt books are:
The Big Over Easy
The Fourth Bear

He has a website over at: http://www.jasperfforde.com/ which is worth a look for a bit of fun - but don't spoil yourself for the books. Having just looked at the website I'm almost tempted by the Fforde Fiesta in May!
