I hadn't heard the news of the mine explosion in West Virginia until I woke up this morning to the news that 12 miners had been found alive, now I check the BBC news site to find that the announcement was wrong and only one survivor has been found.

I'm... stunned.

To have such a level of miscommunication like this - especially where it has such a personal impact on so many people - is unforgivable.

ETA I should say however, that it is amazing that anyone survived after that length of time and I'm sure everything possible was done - and is being done - to aid the relatives and friends.

Rather than spam my flist with loads of updates, I'm going to edit this one. I had this plan to have a whole new attitude towards work this year, and I do, I'm seeing it for what it is. Exactly the kind of work I swore I would never do.

And rather than let it get me down and do the usual soul-sucking thing that it always does, I'm more determined than ever to get out of here. New year, new me, new job.

Oh, and Monkey took the fridge. (We had a mini-fridge for keeping milk in which Monkey brought in. He took it away with him at the end of last year so now we don't. Wonder what the reaction would be if I took away the kettle when I leave... *eg*)

ETA What kind of library is this?! I'm currently working on some web coding and wanted to double check something in my PHP bible which the library has a copy of. I went up to check it, it wasn't there. Not that much of a surprise (although it's marked in stock it's not exactly secure) but I thought maybe one of the other books will have the same thing. Maybe they do. Trouble is there isn't a single book on PHP on the shelves. All of them swiped? Gah! Ah well, guess it'll have to wait till I get home then!

My birthday present to myself arrived today.

I need a BSG icon.

New series starts on Sky One on the 10th of this month. I will have the whole of season one watched at least once before then.
