Yay!
The crossbow's made! Now all I have to do is attach it together (which I don't have the stuff for at home) and paint it and it's done!

Before anyone starts panicking and thinking I really am a crazy stalker type person with violent tendencies - it's a toy mock up which will not work in the slightest! It's part of a costume for Fusion (not mine though!) I'm actually having a real problem making a stake - who'd have thought they were so tough to make? I sawed up a broom handle but can I get this thing into a point? Can I heck as like! Anyone got any tips? (of course you are aware that if you can actually advise me on the perfect way to make a stake I may just have to edge gently away from you?!)

Ermmm... I whittled using a really good carpentry knife and then used sandpaper to smooth it off... worked fine for me...

*grins as Sho edges away*

okay, don't have a carpentry knife - anything I can use? (only edging away a little bit)

to be honest I wouldn't be surprised if you edged away from me. Add a trigger mechanism to this thing and it could easily be a workable crossbow... *grin*

ermmm... penknife... stanley knife... sharp kitchen knife that you don't really use anymore... okay.. skip that last one... It really does have to be a knife though, a stanley knife is probably your best bet as they're a lot safer to use. But I don't know if you have one of those or if you could get hold of one... The only other suggestion is if you have a hacksaw, if you could steady the broom handle enough you could probably get the basis of a point with that...

HTH

got a stanley knife, actually about three of them to be honest. Okay, I'll give that a go - cheers!

Good luck with the whittling of the stake, I'll be crossing my fingers in the hope you won't impale yourself while getting it pointy. :)

Got it done! I rock!

No trace of modesty at all - I frelling rock!!!!

Now I just need to try some magic way of drying and ironing all the clothes I'm taking and then pack them and then clean up the army boots I promised Beck she could have for her outfit and then find my sandals and then do the million and one other things I've still got to do...

Yup, I rock...

I find radiators and an iron usually work... just my method though. Well done with the stake btw, glad I could be of assistance (did it all 4 years ago for halloween)
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on April 27th, 2004 01:15 pm (UTC)
All the radiators are full and there's another load in the machine right now... Organised? Me? yeah right...

Still, at least I'm getting caught up with the laundry...

See... this is why I do it every week... it's not too bad though, throw it in the washer, turn it on... go out for a couple of hours and viola, it's done (well, usually 2 and a half loads)... Plus we have a clothes horse in the tiny front bedroom, so we can usually fit everything on there.

two clothes horses, both of which are full, four radiators all of which are full and one hanging carouselly thing hanging from the shower rail.

I really shouldn't let it pile up like this should I? *grin*

No... I guess I'm lucky that I only have about 8 short sleeve tops that I can wear for work in the summer... and about a similar number of long sleeves for winter... it means I have to do the washing every week or else I have no clothes... it definitely keeps me spurred on.

Wrote a bit more of my challenge fic... it is really dire... It's going to need a CPD to save it (but as that's one of the requirements *g*) and my brains not on writing tonight, so TTW is going to have to wait.

BTW, did anything else ever happen with that For the Good of the Empire xover fic you sent me from Xanderzone, Now I've read the first Heir to the Empire book, and am in the middle of the second... I'd be quite interested in what happens.

I forgot I'd sent you that one! Yup, the guys posted a few more parts - I'll see if I can track them down for you - might take a while though. XanderZone is a really high volume list

I could look, I joined and checked out the archive site, but it's not on there... grrr... BTW in the process of a S1 wallpaper, just got struck by inspiration.

Yeah, the archivist and I seem to be having the same real life problems of lack of time to do anything to our sites..

How big does the stake have to be? I would just use a pencil, taking the lead, yellow part and eraser off though.

Thansk Lina - it's all done now though. Fits nicely in the palm of my hand.
