Do you want the answer to todays question?

:)

Got it already... *g*
[identity profile] smhwpf.livejournal.com on November 23rd, 2004 10:58 am (UTC)
September? It says April 22nd! Does it take three whole months to cross the pond?
[identity profile] smhwpf.livejournal.com on November 23rd, 2004 10:58 am (UTC)
'Cos if so, I'm booking a flight!
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on November 23rd, 2004 10:59 am (UTC)
April was the original date, Joss posted to Whedonesque last night to let everyone know that it had been pushed back to September 30th.

Apparently there's too much competition in the Summer.

Grrr

September?!

**Me grumpy**:(
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on November 23rd, 2004 12:06 pm (UTC)
it's pretty awaful isn't it? I'm hoping it wont have too many implications for the convention but I wouldn't bet on any more cast signing on for it than already have. :(
[identity profile] keith5by5.livejournal.com on November 23rd, 2004 12:24 pm (UTC)
I'm a hold-out!

Sticks tongue out.
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on November 23rd, 2004 12:26 pm (UTC)
:P right back at you - you should watch it, it's a fantastic show, it will be a great film, and there's a heck of a lot of eye-candy on offer!

*grin*
[identity profile] keith5by5.livejournal.com on November 23rd, 2004 12:29 pm (UTC)
I think Joss has hit burnout, I watched one ep and was depressed as hell. Eye-candy? Some, but that's not enough to make me watch it.

Hell, I hated Tru Calling, and it had my future wife in it!
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on November 23rd, 2004 12:31 pm (UTC)
There were admittedly a couple of episodes which maybe weren't as good as they should have been, but later episodes like Ariel, Out Of Gas and Objects In Space really showed how great it could have been.

That said, I quite liked TC as well, not in any kind of in-depth 'wow, this is the television event of the year!' way - more in a 'this is a fun way to pass the time' way.
[identity profile] keith5by5.livejournal.com on November 23rd, 2004 12:39 pm (UTC)
Shrugs, the one episode I saw of Firefly, had me wondering why they didn't use it as an interrogation method in police stations, play that continously and you'd soon have crims willing to confess to anything just to get it to stop. And $ 60 million dollar budget? That's nothing for a Sci fi film, people are going to be disappointed by the special effects, guys like me who watch for the big bangs aren't going to be interested.

TC? I was dubious from the start, what with the plot being a rehashed combo of The Dead Zone, Quantum Leap, and Haunted, but gave it a chance based on Eliza being in it. And was very diappointed, what with the repeative plots, the unsympathetic characters (Tru and her boss aside), and creaky dialouge.

Still beat Spaith the series though. Has to shower at the thought. And I'll still buy the DVD.

[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on November 23rd, 2004 12:53 pm (UTC)
From having seen the trailer quite a few times over the White Room weekend, I have to say the 'big bang' effect is definitely there in spades. A lot of the interest in Firefly/Serenity is that it's determinedly not sci-fi - there's even a line in one of the episodes to that extent:
Wash: "So she's psychic? Isn't that like something out of science fiction?"
Zoe: "You live on a spaceship dear."
Wash: "So?"

I guess it really does depend on what you're looking for from the film. The characters were always the most important thing to me in Firefly, unravelling them was a long process but (with the exception of one character - Book) was never boring. I really hope that's continued in the film (and possibly films - there's talk of another two if this one's a success) and from the way people are talking I think that's the route it's going to take. The Sci-Fi-ness of the whole thing takes a back seat through the show and I get the feeling the film will take the same stance.

As for Spaith the series? Thank every deity anyone believes in that never came about - that would have been the death-knell in Whedon's career I think!

Well on that my dear, we are in complete agreement, as my Livejournal comprhensively states.
Hell, if TC was what we had to put up with to avoid Spaith I think it was a sacrfice worth making.

BTW: When you come to Blackpool - you know the Golden Mile is nothing like Vegas right?

And Blackpool in September, as someone who spent a good part of his late teens in the town, not pretty. Wrap up warm.
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on November 23rd, 2004 12:59 pm (UTC)
*grin*

Yup, was actually in Blackpool this year as well - the Fusion convention was there, but that was in May. Still not warm!
[identity profile] keith5by5.livejournal.com on November 23rd, 2004 01:02 pm (UTC)
It's worse in Septemeber. All that glitter and then all the rain, may be the most depressing part of the UK (certainly of the north-west), simply because it's trying so hard to be something it's not.

Blackpool, you're not glamourous! Kinda of like a 45 year old hooker trying to pass herself off as 25.

Grins, nice similie uh?
[identity profile] rileysaplank.livejournal.com on November 23rd, 2004 01:15 pm (UTC)
Uhhh, Blackpool isn't in the North-West of the UK. Sorry, just thought I had to make that point there. And I'm sure that it can't be as driech as Scotland in September.

:)

Andy
[identity profile] keith5by5.livejournal.com on November 23rd, 2004 01:18 pm (UTC)
Okay, can't believe I put that (I'm from near-by Preston), it should have been north-west of England of-course.

The thing with Blackpool is it's pretending to be something it isn't. The Vegas of England?

At least in Preston we KNOW we're in the arse-end of Britain.
[identity profile] rileysaplank.livejournal.com on November 23rd, 2004 01:21 pm (UTC)
I get what you meant. :) Just the Scot in me cringes when people refer to the north of England as the north of the UK, even though 99% of the time it's totally unintentional.

:)

Do you want us to come up there and conquer you?

Second thoughts, you might send Sean Connery down.

Shudders, I think we'll leave you alone.....
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on November 23rd, 2004 01:32 pm (UTC)
yeah, like Sean Connery's Scottish... hiding away in his Spanish tax-exile villa like that... *grin*

Nah, tell you what - we'll send Billy Connelly down, personally I'd be glad to be rid of him!
[identity profile] keith5by5.livejournal.com on November 23rd, 2004 01:33 pm (UTC)
God, I think I'd rather have Connery...
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on November 23rd, 2004 01:37 pm (UTC)
*grin*

So the Big Yin is the perfect threat then?

Yay!
[identity profile] keith5by5.livejournal.com on November 23rd, 2004 01:39 pm (UTC)
Defintely. Yourself excepted, do you have any other beautiful maidens you could send down to invade us?

I mean, I spent enough school holidays in Scotland to begin to understand why the rumours about Scottish men and sheep might be true.....

Ducks.
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on November 23rd, 2004 01:49 pm (UTC)
I should be outraged, but I'm laughing too much....

*giggles*
[identity profile] rileysaplank.livejournal.com on November 23rd, 2004 03:07 pm (UTC)
And Connelly's any better, spending most of his time in L.A.

:)
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on November 23rd, 2004 03:11 pm (UTC)
who would you rather do without? Connery or Connelly?

And please don't tell me you like Connelly?!
[identity profile] rileysaplank.livejournal.com on November 23rd, 2004 03:25 pm (UTC)
I'd rather get rid of them both. But if I had to choose one to get rid of it'd be Connelly.
