Questions and decisions
So it's decision time I guess.

One. Do I make the Faith/Xander archive an auto-archive or not? If I do it means less coding for me in the long run, but it also means I have to mess about with the settings for INAP and I'm very wary of doing that.
If I don't it'll mean more coding for me and authors might be less inclined to submit their work, but it also means I get to keep up my coding skills and there will be a kind of quality control which is lacking on INAP right now.

Hmmm.

Two. Do I take the 30th and 31st of December off work as annual leave? The library is open but our department is closed to the public so I don't really have to be here then, but on the other hand I need all the days I can save for next year.

Hmmm squared.

On one. The authors that want their work out there are going to submit their work no matter what. Plus you will get quality control and it'll make it easier to keep people off the site that you know are not going to appreciate it. (Not mentioning any names here but the number 3 comes to mind for some reason here.)

So I'm going for the not auto upload option.

On two. I'd go to work on those two days. If it's closed to the public you'll be able to get more work (read as writing) done, and be getting paid for it, and you can use the two days later on in the working year to do something that you really want to do with them.

*grin* funny how I know exactly who you mean there...

That's kind of what I was thinking myself about the FX option, although there's no way I would refuse to archive someone just because of a personal disagreement.

The second question... the 30th is actually a big day for me which is why it's such a complex question. I think I will go into work (weather permitting) but I'm still not 100% sure.

D'uh. How could I forget about that? I'm an eejit. Take the two of them off. I would.

See, I have this really clear memory of taking time off work nine years ago on that day and then spending the afternoon washing someone elses dishes. (It was my sister's, not some random person with a dish-washing backlog). Those days don't tend to go all that well for me, especially the landmark ones.
[identity profile] rileysaplank.livejournal.com on December 2nd, 2004 02:18 pm (UTC)
Your sister made you do that on one of your most significant days. No wonder you don't always get on with her.
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on December 2nd, 2004 02:22 pm (UTC)
She didn't really make me, it was more a case of if I wanted a coffee I'd need to wash a mug first. And move the piles of washing out of the sink so I could fill the kettle.

Joy.

I reiterate, no wonder you don't always get on with your sister. If you wanted a coffee, she should have made it for you. She should have done the dishes to clear space to be able to make you a coffee.

That is just my POV though.

A few years ago I had a desktop publishing programme on my PC called "Print Shop Deluxe". It was a handy little programme for making posters and cards and the like. Had a huge clip art gallery as well which my sister really liked a lot of. So I loaned it to her for her work (she's a depute manager in a nursery).

She then proceeded to loan it around all the staff in the nursery and conveniently 'forget' to bring the disks back to me. I wasn't too bothered because by then I'd gotten myself copies of PhotoShop and the like but it still rankled with me.

Eventually about six months ago I demanded it back from her, only to be told that 'one of the girls took it home and lost it'. Majorly pissing me off just with that.

Then, yesterday, she phones me at home saying the computer at their work's just been upgraded and they've lost Print Shop Deluxe. Since I have a PayPal account could I get them another copy of it and they'd give me the money.

I agreed, found a copy on EBay for under £20 and bought it. Got an email from the seller last night saying he'd 'oversold' and couldn't supply it. The refund was 80p short.

So today I phone sis and let her know, she gets on her high horse, tells me to go ahead and get another copy of it straight away and to make sure it gets to them within the fortnight.

I still have the receipt for the first one so I'm going to give her both receipts and demand the money for the one 'one of the girls took home and lost.'

Sorry - rant there. We do get on, most of the time. Honest.

Ummm. Why doesn't she just get herself a Paypal account? Or is that too easy an answer.

And I'm sure you get on most of the time, but I know what sister who are 6 years older than you are like. They never appreciate anything you do for them.
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on December 2nd, 2004 02:41 pm (UTC)
Why hasn't she got her own paypal account? Short answer: She can't switch her computer on without panicking, or phoning me, or more often both.

*sigh*

I think I wan't an icon with that on it - the *sigh* thing, and a *Joy* one. Might have to fire up PhotoShop when I get home!

Refuse to archive because he's crap. Nothing personal about it at all, I stopped reading him long before I had any personal beefs with the doofus.
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on December 2nd, 2004 12:14 pm (UTC)
I don't really read his stuff because I'm not interested in the shows and films he chooses to cross-over with. That said, I stuck with the one that caused the ruckus at the WKA and read it through to the end because I do like that film. The story had promise. It could have been great in the hands of someone who was prepared to be sympathetic to all the characters, it failed.

:)
[identity profile] keith5by5.livejournal.com on December 2nd, 2004 12:16 pm (UTC)
It ultimately failed because his Xander does more lecturing than an evangelical priest.
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on December 2nd, 2004 12:26 pm (UTC)
Yeah, there was also the problem that the author was using it as a soap-box to say how much they hate particular characters without actually giving any real justification for that.

I hate Spuffy, completely and unquestioningly. But I don't think it makes Buffy herself a completely unsympathetic character. I'm a 20-something woman, I've been there, I made huge mistakes just like she did (well, not 'just' like she did 'cause that would be weird). Do I deserve to be condemned for eternity because of stupid decisions I made?
[identity profile] keith5by5.livejournal.com on December 2nd, 2004 12:29 pm (UTC)
Seeing as its you. Yes.

But seriously, I don't like Buffy either, but I don't feel the need to 'bash' her, I just avoid using her in my stories. Which gives me a happy when I kill her off, but that's just me.

Keith

PS. Have you checked your emails, only Icewing has sent you an invitation to Divergent Destenies?
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on December 2nd, 2004 12:31 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I've been checking since the weekend but it hasn't come through yet. I was assuming it was because Yahell was living up to it's name. :(

Except not.

I am indeed! I've been playing with the idea pretty much since INAP launched and now I'm determined to have it up and running by Christmas time. *grin*
