*sigh*
Bad weather in Scotland over night - Erskine Bridge was shut this morning. Wouldn't affect me normally but for the fact that since it was shut everyone decided to go the route I normally go. I'm now an hour and a half later than normal into work, I've been in my car since just before seven apart from a brief stop at the petrol station.

Where I park at work is quite a tight little parking bay with six spaces in front of a wall. There's just enough space to park along the wall as well (ie in front of the six marked spaces) but it's really tight and pisses everyone off. I thought that since I was late that's where I'd end up but no, there were still two marked spaces empty. Because some idiot had parked opposite them against the wall. Meaning that unless you have power steering and are a stubborn bitch (that'd be me then) you can't get parked in the marked spaces.

I'm parked in the marked spaces, took a lot of to and fro-ing but I made it.

Now I just want the coffee I didn't have in the house because I told myself I'd get one when I got to work (down to three cups a day now!)

*sigh*

Yay, WOOHOO. Woke up to hear on the news that the Ayrshire coast had been hit pretty hard by the storms last night and was wondering if you were okay.
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on January 12th, 2005 01:46 am (UTC)
yeah, bunch of trees down, awake all night because the dog kept waking up, but other than that I'm good. Where I am I'm kinda sheltered by Arran of all things so it probably took the brunt - as well as further south into Ayr itself.

That's good then, apart from the lack of sleep. Dram must have been scared out of his wits.

Even driving home at nine last night I was struggling against the wind. So if it was that bad this far inland then I can only imagine what it was like on the coast.
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on January 12th, 2005 01:55 am (UTC)
pretty much a nightmare, mostly because there were still loads of trucks on the road at the time so passing (or being passed by) a high sided vehicle would have been enough to push me off the road with the strength of the wind.

Dram kept waking up, barking then scratching to get out to see what the noise was.

I'm shattered, at least he gets to sleep most of the day!

You might need to up your coffee quota for today then.

quarter of an hour 'till caffeine break - God help anyone who gets between me and the kettle!

Just managed to get permission to leave at 4 tonight so I can try to beat the traffic on the way home. Like that's gonna work.
[identity profile] rileysaplank.livejournal.com on January 12th, 2005 02:18 am (UTC)
Yea, like that's gonna work. You and hundreds of others are gonna leave work early, so the roads are just gonna be as bad.

And someone's going to have the hid the kettle. *grins*
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on January 12th, 2005 02:24 am (UTC)
That's what I'm worried about - that everyone else will leave early and just push rush hour an hour earlier. Still, at least I wont be here!
[identity profile] rileysaplank.livejournal.com on January 12th, 2005 02:26 am (UTC)
That's always a plus, even if you are stuck in a traffic jam.
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on January 12th, 2005 02:52 am (UTC)
I HAVE COFFEEE!!!

Yay!

Sorry, had to share!
[identity profile] rileysaplank.livejournal.com on January 12th, 2005 02:55 am (UTC)
So that's the way to your heart is it? *grins*
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on January 12th, 2005 02:57 am (UTC)
On days like today - yeah.

[identity profile] rileysaplank.livejournal.com on January 12th, 2005 02:59 am (UTC)
You'll be in work till four yeah? Plenty of time for me to get heaps of coffee and make it into where you work.

*grins*
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on January 12th, 2005 03:01 am (UTC)
LOL, doubt it. Unless you drive, Matt didn't make it in to work today 'cause of the trains and he's from the east of the city.
[identity profile] rileysaplank.livejournal.com on January 12th, 2005 03:02 am (UTC)
Of course I drive, don't tell me you've forgotten about Willow?
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on January 12th, 2005 03:04 am (UTC)
I know you drive, what I meant was if you were trying to get in to Glasgow today you would have to drive since the trains aren't running.
[identity profile] rileysaplank.livejournal.com on January 12th, 2005 03:05 am (UTC)
Edinburgh to Glasgow's back to a half hourly service now, so could get in if I wasn't wanting to drive.
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on January 12th, 2005 03:08 am (UTC)
you actually went and checked the train info?

*g*
[identity profile] rileysaplank.livejournal.com on January 12th, 2005 03:10 am (UTC)
No, they mentioned it on the news. The Forth road bridge is open up to cars only at the minute as well, so hopefully the other bridges will open up soon as well.
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on January 12th, 2005 03:12 am (UTC)
Yay! If the Erskine Bridge opens that'll cut the traffic by half (hopefully!)
[identity profile] rileysaplank.livejournal.com on January 12th, 2005 03:17 am (UTC)
Fingers crossed for that then. The wind seems to have died down here now, but it looks as though it's still blowing a gale up at Oban (That's where BBC news 24 have decided to set up camp to report on the storm.)
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on January 12th, 2005 03:26 am (UTC)
fingers crossed indeed.

I'm now on the verge of falling asleep at my desk, plus, I'm humming a Deacon Blue song for some reason.
[identity profile] willowmina.livejournal.com on January 12th, 2005 04:52 am (UTC)
You should get one of those insulated mug things. Then at least if you do get stuck in traffic, you can have a hot drink with you. I think if I lived up there I'd probably be overpanicking and loading sleeping bags and stuff into the car.

Glad to hear you're okay though *g*

Yeah, there was one time when I lived in Fife - I'd been in St Andrews for a meal and got snowed into the town. Had to stay in a hotel that night despite the fact that where I lived at the time was only five miles outside of St Andrews.

Genuinly could not move 100 yards from the spot. That was fun! (and expensive in a St Andrews hotel)

I actually have an insulated mug - an Angel one believe it or not - and I looked at it this morning but decided against it. Tomorrow I will be bringing it!
