Don't you just hate it when you don't really have a full blown cold but you have the runny (and sore) nose, the headache and the tickly throat? And one second you're freezing cold and the next you're overheating?

I'm well enough to be at work, so I am here, but I just want to be curled up writing somewhere. Definitely don't want to be downloading usage stats all day which is what I'm stuck doing...

Hey Sho,

Feel better:) ('Feel better' as a statement? Well that's helpful, isn't it?! I'm sure your wannabe cold is just jumping to attention at that! D'oh! I wonder whether lemsip powder fed into my machine can virtually appear at your end? Well it works for e-mails and photos. And there's a floppy disc drive here that hardly gets used anymore, you'd think it would jump at the chance of having something useful to do...I shall investigate further.....)

Beck.

(Apparently I'm bouncing on Yahell - but I have no idea why. I'm hoping I've passively reactivated myself - but considering how passive my brain's feeling right now, I doubt even my little toe will feel reactivated.)
[identity profile] acrazywench.livejournal.com on January 13th, 2005 04:17 am (UTC)
Well, it didn't think much to the blackcurrant flavoured flavoured powder! I think that was past it's sell-by date and it was trying to protect you from any unwanted adverse reaction or lack of effect that out of date lemsip might cause. Plus it was tesco's own - so bound to have been of inferior quality.

Evidently my system has bought into the branding exercises employed by cynical marketing ploys and now has aspirations to 'high quality' tastes. I have now purchased some lemon Lemsip (which sports the official trademark). (I decided that the traditional lemon flavour would be the most acceptable to my computer's rigid tastes.)

Let's see how that works. Should be reaching you in about five minutes...

[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on January 13th, 2005 04:25 am (UTC)
*grin*

Thanks! Lemon Lempsip - mmmmm, did they used to have honey in it or am I imagining that? I know I can't find any in the shops and usually resort to adding the honey manually but I don't think I used to have to do that.

My memory's playing tricks with me now, must be a sign of getting old.
[identity profile] acrazywench.livejournal.com on January 13th, 2005 04:49 am (UTC)
You know honey and lemon flavour rings a bell, don't know if it is though. I'll have to investigate further.

The thing I really miss when welcoming a 21st century common cold into my head, nose and throat area, is good old honey and lemon flavoured Halls Mentholyptus. Now these most lovely of cold sweets seem to have disappeared from the face of the planet:( If you want Halls extra strong horrible flavour, they're everywhere - but honey and lemon flavour has just disappeared. (Is it a fashion thing, does a hankering for honey and lemon sweets show an 80s kitschness that is only alternatively revealed when ordering prawn cocktail as a starter in a fancy restaurant or a taboo and lemonade when out at the local wine bar??! (Does taboo even exist anymore?!))

In recent cold/flu times I have once managed to find blackcurrant flavour mentholyptus (so excited was I that I bought 4 packs), and I've also come across honey and lemon flavoured Hacks. Not quite as good as the Halls equivalent, but a passable alternative since they are a proper rounded shape conducive to the menthol action, rather than the flatter, rather poitnless alternative of Tunes.

Ok, so maybe I could be accused of overthinking that a little. (Whatever you do, don't get me started on the demise of the dequadin - that could lead anywhere, but at some point will probably lament the loss of Pacers to the world.)

[identity profile] willowmina.livejournal.com on January 13th, 2005 04:56 am (UTC)
Yes, taboo does still exist (was drinking it at the crhistmas do).

As Becky seems to have dosed you up on the Lemsip, I'll send some of the lemon and ginger tea (honey already added) and some industrial strength Strepsils (blackcurrant or cherry, I'm afraid!)

Hope you're feeling better soon.

(and please don't give it to me, I've a flippin' audition on Sunday!)

Jackie

Never had Taboo, not sure why 'cause I am in the demographic for it but it just never appealed to me.

*gulps down tea and strepsils*

Thank you!

Have to drive home later so not right now thanks.

I will be having one tonight though! (BTW, Nhamo's awake - and the scoop I gave you last night? Kinda secret for now, if you don't mind?)
[identity profile] rileysaplank.livejournal.com on January 13th, 2005 06:04 am (UTC)
What Scoop? Where? Is it an ice-cream scoop?

Need Cheering Up?
How's this then?

INAP Nominated for Best Layout and Best Char Specific site?

Crimson Regret nominated for best Angst & Best Xander?

Like Ginola said in the mid-90s -'cause you're worth it'.
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on January 13th, 2005 05:57 am (UTC)
Re: Need Cheering Up?
Guh!

Nominated? Me? Where? Thanks!
[identity profile] keith5by5.livejournal.com on January 13th, 2005 05:59 am (UTC)
Re: Need Cheering Up?
shit, should have put the link in shouldn't i?

http://destined.to/lietomeawards

On the basis I won a lot last time, I decided they really needed the quality of their entries improving...

IMO, you're a sho-in for the site awards. It's so much better than the majority of fan-sites it's scary...

Re: Need Cheering Up?
BTW Sho, I think site nominees have to get a button to link back to them...
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on January 13th, 2005 06:36 am (UTC)
Re: Need Cheering Up?
I just had a quick look and it looks like it does need a button, once I hear that the nomination's been accepted I'll get one loaded onto the INAP homepage.

*suddenly realises she really should have an INAP icon, hmmmm*
[identity profile] keith5by5.livejournal.com on January 13th, 2005 06:42 am (UTC)
Re: Need Cheering Up?
Oh god, I've got her started on icons again

More Crimson Regret wench!

Cracks whip!

Then remembers how much she likes it and gives up.

*grin*

Now if you were to threaten me with a day at a health spa where my every whim was catered for - that would be torture. In a way.

Re: Need Cheering Up?
Oh yeah, I bet.

Do I look like I came down in the last shower?

Don't answer that.

Re: Need Cheering Up?
Wasn't going to say a word...

although the phrase 'came up the Clyde in a banana boat' did spring to mind (and yes, I'm fully aware that means next to nothing to non-Glaswegians!)

Re: Need Cheering Up?
I get the gist.

Glares at Sho, uses the glare he used while writing 'A tribute To Marty-Stuing'.

Be afraid, very afraid.
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on January 13th, 2005 06:54 am (UTC)
Re: Need Cheering Up?
*grins in defiance of the glare*

meant to review that story btw - made me laugh so much my lip split! (genuinly, there was blood and everything.)

Re: Need Cheering Up?
I've only had one negative respone and that was from the person who inspired it.

And Liz liked it!

Pats himself on the back. Gotta work out how to make it 'R' rated so I can post it on ff.net....

[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on January 13th, 2005 07:00 am (UTC)
Re: Need Cheering Up?
I think you would actually be okay to post it as is with an R rating on ff.net to be honest. I'll go back and re-read it but I know I've read a lot more precise (as in the exact ins and outs (if you'll pardon the awful pun)) that gets by on an R rating.
[identity profile] keith5by5.livejournal.com on January 13th, 2005 07:02 am (UTC)
Re: Need Cheering Up?
I know, I've re-read and decided to risk it.

I even considered re-joining the XZone for five minutes and posting it there.

Then the concussion cleared.

Re: Need Cheering Up?
LOL! [livejournal.com profile] bastardsnow finally convinced me to leave Journeyverse this morning, my day has been improved since then. ('Cept for this stupid half cold)

Re: Need Cheering Up?
Go Bastardsnow!

Although I noted he joined and left my group in the same day.

Fair nuff, I get his objections.
