ooops
So I left work at 12 yesterday to take the dog to the vets (he's fine by the way - no real explanation for what happened but he's not limping anymore) and before I left work I printed out a fic to read in the waiting room. It's very definitely NC-17 so I didn't actually read much of it there - ever get that feeling that everyone somehow knows exactly what you're reading, like they can see through the paper?

I read a little more of it last night only to discover that two pages are missing. The printer at work is a shared one across my entire office. I hope to hell those sheets aren't sitting on the printer because otherwise I just know that today's staff meeting is going to include some comments about mis-uses of printing priviledges...

I did scan through the fic online there and the part I'm missing isn't all that 'colourful' but anyone reading the sheets to see what they are will know exactly what it is. And given that there was already an incident about a year ago when I sent one of my own fics to the wrong printer which resulted in a library-wide email from IT saying "Someone's printed off a Buffy the Vampire Slayer short story to the IT services printer" when everyone in the library knew it was me...

This is not good.

See if I'd noticed the missing pages when I was at the vets I could have emailed one of my friends at work and hopefully rescued it before one of the supervisors saw it...  At least I'm usually one of the first into the office so maybe, just maybe no one's noticed. Or maybe no one will say anything...

Yeah right. That's gonna happen.

OMG - I am laughing but not because it's funny, but because I did something similar.

My laptop is tied to the printer at work (in San Francisco at that time) and I was at home and accidentally hit print while reading a seriously NC17 fic.

The problem is that when ever we print a header sheet with your name on it comes out first so anyone who looks will know that the pages behind it belong to you. It was after hours when I did it so I rushed to the office for 630am the next day to get it. 11 pages had printed before I could hit cancel job!

I was sooooo glad that my coworkers are late risers and never arrive before 8am

Hope it works out.

I found them! Yay! The printer ran out of paper whilst it was printing and I took the sheets already printed out of the hopper while I refilled it. Somehow or other those two sheets got themselves mixed up in the later pages. I have them, they weren't left on the printer and I can breathe a huge sigh of relief!

*phew*

*also thanks every deity that she switched off the header sheet on her printer* - I'm kinda IT guru in my little office and the boss asked me to do that although now it means we can't really track who's printing off all the ebay stuff... *grin* (not me)

Well I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

And I definitely know that feeling when you're reading something.

Got them - they were in the bundle I took home but about 20 pages after where they should have been. I almost thought I'd done it twice until I went back and checked.

*grin*
