I am sadness personified
I kinda forgot that tomorrow is the big presentation at work. I have two options right now - script it out completely and don't deviate from that script at all, or have bullet points and talk around those unscripted.

In case I haven't mentioned it before (sarcasm!), I hate talking when it's something important like work. Speaking in public scares the crap out of me, it brings back my stutter. I've got the bullet points so far, I know what I need to talk about, but I sat there and tried it out. I waffled so badly I was embarrassed for myself. The tangents I went off on were the most random tangents I've ever seen, even from me.  So I'm thinking scripted might be the way to go, but then how do I disguise the script for a full hour (yeah, the induction thing somehow expanded from twenty minutes to a full hour)?

Of course, I could phone in sick I guess...

I'm sorely tempted right now - think it might be the final straw though, my boss is already pissed off that I had the temerity to take some flexi time to avoid the rush hour for the last three days last week. I'd say she was PMSing but she's actually a bitch for most of the month and nice for three days. She's like the anti-PMS.

Still, I guess if I screw this up she'll never ask me to do it again...

(BTW, thank you so much for the icon! I love it!)

YW. Maybe just hit the high points and get out while you can?

Do your best!

Whats the worst that could happen?

Don't actually think about that...

Is it really that bad if a talk goes off on a tangent? Chances are they won't notice and you can ask someone else to do it next time!

Take your time and just get through what you need to tell them. Start with a apology, get them on your side. Then say if they have any questions you will be able to tell them at the end.

You'll be fine!

Good luck!

No, don't phone in sick, that way leads to the dark side. *grins*

Go for the scripted option. Lots of people don't like public talking, and if the person sees it for the script it is, hopefully they'll understand the need for a script.

Scripted sounds good under the circumstances. I never script now, but I did when I started public speaking. Script in full, learn the speech, practice it, and have either the full script to work from or, preferably, cards with bullet points and first lines of sections to prompt you.

Remember, you know more about this subject than any of your listeners. You are the expert.
You are intelligent, knowledgable, witty, and a darned good writer. You can write a darned good presentation. So when you deliver it, you can know that you've got good stuff to say, and that they are going to learn something from it, and be impressed by it. If you make the odd mistake, as anyone is likely to, they won't know about it.

Good luck. :)
