Can I scream now?
Had to restore my laptop today. Not a problem, I keep backups all the time - it really is not a problem.

Except...

I forgot I wrote a good 500+ words of What a Difference a Day Makes plus the notes for the grand season seven rewatch along with an essay plan for the [livejournal.com profile] with_character over the last couple of days and my last backup was on Friday.

They're gone. Lost.

Crap.

I am not watching the last five episodes again, I can't do that to myself again....

WAAAAAAAAHHH!!!

Lost WDADM! Very bad! Notes too very annoying... how much of it is in your head?

Let's just say that part of me is glad Xander wasn't in the last few episodes all that much because it's four whole episodes worth of notes that are gone. completely. My brain's gone a bit kablooie right now so I don't really remember anything I had for it so...

WaDaDM is the kicker for me. Every single part of this stroy so far has been written on paper first and then typed up at a later date. Not this part... It was really rough anyway and I'm almost glad it's wiped - means I can start it again but... *sigh*

What doesn't help is the irony in me having just watched Jim Carrey trying to hang onto some fleeting memories in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind either, I have this weird image of me running around inside my computer trying to fit all the bits back together again...

:)

Gah, that really sucks. Ah, well. I'm sure some of the thoughts will still be somewhere in your head, bubbling to the surface at random moments. *g*

Heh! Just as well WaDaDM isn't 18 rated 'cause otherwise that could be embarrasing if something was to bubble to the surface in a public place...

We must have suffered the same brain deadness today because I restored my laptop to it's original settings, but forgot to save all the pictures that I had on it. I'll be able to retrieve most of the ones I wanted to keep because I know where they are, but there's one or two that It might take me a while to find again.

Yikes! If there's anything I'm likely to have on my computer just give me a shout!

I think I managed to get all the ones of yours that I wanted. There were two specific ones of yours that I absolutely needed but managed to get them because I knew exactly where they were. *grins* Most of the other stuff of yours that I have is dotted about on varous sites and I know where to get them. The only thing I don't think I'll be able to find that I really want is a Willow/Tara/Oz wallpaper that Missy made for me.

Just a pity you lost some of the information you had on your computer.

OMG! You poor baby! That just BITES! I knowq how you feel though! I lost a bunch of notes when my last computer died, though luckily, I saved many of my WIP's by mailing them as attachments to my gmail account (I was prescient!)...

Luckily it is just a couple of days worth of work so it's not the end of the world yet. I'm not even trying to remember any of it right now though - still too GNHHHH!!!! about it in a way
[identity profile] velvetwhip.livejournal.com on March 9th, 2005 10:56 am (UTC)
I quite understand how you feel. And take your time. It'll all work out for the best, I know! You'll end up writing something that's all the better for being started from scratch!

That sucks, Sho :( I'm really bad with stuff like that though, I hardly ever back up my stuff. Tbh it's not really anything I'd miss though, its notes for uni which I have a hard copy of anyway.

I've been trying really hard to back up everything because I know so many people who've had irrevocable crashes on their PCs lately that I didn't want to tempt fate at all. The fact that I knew what I was doing was goig to rewrite the hard drive did occur to me, I knew exactly what I was doing. I just completely forgot the files... *headdesk*

I feel for you, I really do. Not only in that I too know the excruciating pain of losing things thanks to computer troubles, but also that you're looking at the propsect of re-rewatching S7. That kind of pain is just beyond comprehension.

Heh! I'm hoping I can get away without having to rewatch any of it for now. Just as well I'd backed up after having watched KiM and Lies... I think I might have been forced into some form of ritual suicide if I'd had to watch those again!

(wondering, if I'm forced into it is it still suicide? *grin*)
