Sweet Zombie Jesus!
So I'm back at work, and oh my god how did I get so many emails in three weeks? All stupid stuff as well - gah! And of course with the new Freedom of Information act requiring a response withing 21 days I have to answer most of them today... of course that answer is going to be a standard "Thanks for your query, rest assured I'm looking into it" one, but hey, it's an answer!

Right, off to slog through the spam...

So what would have happened if you'd been off for another week? Would you have been breaking the law by not responding to the e-mails? Surely there should be a system at your work for someone else to be able to get to the Urgent e-mails that need a response within a certain time limit.

we're in the process of setting up a general enquiry email address for e-journals but we can't decide what to call it right now - we deal with databases and current awareness as well so we can't just have ejournals@lib... Plus, when we're off on annual leave or the like we have to switch on the out of office thing. I guess I could have phoned IT when I was off and asked them to do that for me but to be honest it never really crossed my mind at the time.

In future though, all queries should be going to the general address so that someone at least sees the email. Most of the ones that need an answer straight away were actually cc'd to my boss as well so hopefully she's done something about them.

It's a bugger ain't it. I got in today after 3 days holiday and there was 22 in my inbox, mostly spam (I get very few real e-mails to my works address). The thing is, I don't even know how my address has got out. I only use it for work things, so how the heck has my work e-mail got out.

Anyways, I hope you're enjoying being back at work more than I am.

Heh! I had 74 in my main inbox, plus 127 new journal alerts which are automatically filtered into their own folder. Plus 70 personal emails (again filtered into another folder)

I haven't even looked at the personal ones or the alerts. Plus I had a gazillion overdue reminders pop up whcih I'm still slogging my way through... And I have to go see staffing at 10 to talk about my absence, then do the same thing with the department head at 11... Joy.
