maybe it's not soooo bad
I've had three people compliment my hair this morning. Maybe it really isn't as bad as I see when I look in the mirror. Still got to colour  it though so maybe by this time tomorrow I'll have grown to like it.

I'm leaving on Friday morning to fly down to Heathrow for the convention and I'm working through till Thursday night. I'm not packed, I don't have everything I need and I only just remembered to book my dog into the kennels for the weekend. Only now I have a problem, well two actually. The first is the same one I had last time I went away - I can't find Dram's vaccination records which the kennels require before they'll take him. I always lose it and I always find it at the last minute so I'm not too worried.

The second problem, his booster shot is due really soon, in fact it may even be overdue, and my vets is only open during the day when I'm at work.

So even if I find the vaccination record, the kennel still might not take him since it may have lapsed anyway.

And another problem I just remembered - I don't have a passport. Well, I do but it expired in 2001 and I've never gotten round to renewing it. Every flight I've taken since then has been domestic and on either Ryanair or EasyJet who are happy to accept a photographic drivers license. The flight is through BA since it's going direct to Heathrow and nowhere on their site can I find anything that'll tell me if they accept drivers licenses as valid ID.

So all in, I might not be able to go at all.

Oh,  but if I do? One of the outfits I was on the lookout for on Saturday was a Chinese/Mandarin style dress which I couldn't find anywhere in a shop I could afford. Clearing out my bedroom yesterday? Found a skirt suit I'd forgotten I had - dark red with black print detail on it and a Mandarin collar. Plus I have a cute black top which'll go perfectly with it - so now the only problem is my usual shoe dilemma. The skirt's short, so am I. (well 5'4", actually tall for where I live) and I hate my feet - seriously, I will not wear sandals or anything strappy at all. Normally when I wear skirts (which aint all that often) I'll wear high boots but... will that go with a Chinese style suit? Hmmm. Is sartorially confused (and not for the first time!)

*sigh* guess I should actually do some work since I've been in the office an hour and haven't done much of anything yet... (must avoid the temptation to read [livejournal.com profile] m_mcgregor's new story till I get home...)

Oh, and since I forgot to watch Doctor Who on Saturday I'm going to use the icon [livejournal.com profile] ludditerobot made to remind me to watch it as soon as I get in the house tonight!

ETA so I'm getting timed out trying to check on INAP right now - plus none of the images I have stored on ML are displaying. I'm also having trouble with other sites as well - can someone check and let me know if they can access INAP?

No troubles accessing it here. Sounds like a problem on your end.

And yes, please don't read it at work. I wouldn't want you to get in trouble. :)

*grin*

reading it'll be the second thing I do when I get in the house tonight (first has to be Doctor Who, otherwise I'll forget again) - looking forward to it though!

And thanks for checking for me - I'm having real trouble with work related sites as well (including the library catalogue) so it looks as if our network connection's playing up a little.

Hey Sho, sorry to read about your hair traumas:( It's good that people are liking the look though, it must look better than think it does, but you're un-used to the length and it's so different from what you wanted that it's probably taking time to get used to.

As for Dram and taking him to the vet before Friday - can your sister help with this? I reckon she owes you many favours and you should cash one in!

BA flight: You should probably be alright with driving licence and taking your old passport, even though it's expired it is a photo id. I've got a mate who works for BA, he does long haul, but he might know what their internal policy is. I can give him a call tonight if you like.

Sartorial comment: how about some pretty little slippers from Accessorize? I'm kind of thinking this way myself, but am still in indecision about what actually goes above the the shoes!

Work: is overrated;) Dr Who: so far it's not as good as I would like, but it's getting screened in the main hall on Saturday so we won't miss it then.

INAP: haven't checked it yet because I started replying before reading the final para of your entry properly! I can go have a look now though:)

I don't know if I'd trust my sister to take Dram to the vets to be honest, she'd probably either be too tired, not have time, or forget. The people at the kennels know me pretty well - well, they know Dram anyway - so they might be willing to stretch the rules a little bit. Maybe.

For the flight - that would be great if you don't mind asking your BA friend? I was going to call the airport this afternoon but really wasn't looking forward to that!

Shoes - Denise just bought a really cute pair of those slippers from... was it Office or Shelleys? One of the two anyway. So that could indeed be an option!

I think I've managed to narrow the problem I'm having with the sites down to the work's network right now - other people are having similar problems (although not with fic sites obviously! Unless they're not telling me something!)

Hey, Your hair looks great.... But I know if you dont feel comfy with it yourself it dont matter what anyone else says, but still I think it looks great.

I think it was Qube I got my shoes in, they are Hoi Polloi ones, but I know a good few other places are doing them, I was only struggling to get any due to my stupid sized feet... you can probably pick a pair up no problem.

I'm pretty sure BA dont require you to have a passport for domestic flights. I used to travel with my Mum all the time up and down to London and I never had a passport or any other type of ID and was never ever asked for any. I have never been able to work out why the cheaper airlines always insisted on ID... only thing I could think of was it was to do with the online bookings, but then you can book BA online too so that blows that theory.

I got a suitcase BTW :)

Qube - that was it! Sorry!

And good news about the belt as well - sorry, forgot to check my phone till this morning 'cause I'm a diddy!

And thanks for saying my hair looks okay, I'm getting there with it - it's just because it in no way resembles what I wanted that it will take a long time to get to like it. On the plus side though? Took half as long to dry it this morning!

Was the travelling with your Mum before September 2001, things have tightened up a lot with air travel since then, plus if you were under 16 at the time you were probably on your Mum's passport. I know with some of the airlines, they'll only accept passports as photo ID, but can't remember which ones.

Best option is to check with B.A.

Best option is to check with B.A.

Which I have tried to do but the only information I've found on their site is this:

Note: (a) A passport is not required for travel between Great Britain and Ireland, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man. (b) Passengers transiting the UK destined for the Republic of Ireland are advised to hold return tickets to avoid delay and interrogation.

So if I don't need a passport to go to Jersey then I'm also thinking I won't need it to get from Glasgw to London. It's just that's not made clear on the site at all.
[identity profile] rileysaplank.livejournal.com on April 25th, 2005 03:23 am (UTC)
I'd take it that means you don't need a pasport as photo ID, but agree it's not entirely clear.
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on April 25th, 2005 03:26 am (UTC)
on the confirmation email I got when I booked the tickets it implied all I needed to bring to the airport was the confirmation number and the credit card I used to pay for them. No mention of ID at all.

If it comes down to it then I can drive down - not sure I'd make it for the Friday evening but hey, it's an option!

Found this on the BA website:

For travel within the UK only, you do not need to carry either photographic ID or your passport

So no photo ID required at all apparently.

where did you find that? Trust me, I've trawled that site looking for just that!
[identity profile] rileysaplank.livejournal.com on April 25th, 2005 03:40 am (UTC)
In this link here:

http://www.britishairways.com/travel/travelwise/public/en_gb?prim=aboutjourn

If you go down to "Ensure your personal information is accurate and complete", the second point on it is that.
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on April 25th, 2005 03:45 am (UTC)
See, why couldn't I find that when I was looking?

Thanks!

Probably because nearly every single point on that page deals with travel to the US apart from that one point. A really sensible place to put it isn't it?

I am so glad that your hair is not as bad as you feared! I hope everything else (vaccination, passport, etc.) works out just fine!
