Dammit!
My stammer's back. I haven't been this bad for years but I cannot get a sentence out of my mouth today without falling over at least one word.

Yeah I'm tired but I'm not that stressed at the moment - there've been times in the last year I've been under a lot more stress than this and it hasn't affected me - so why now?

Dammit!

The worst thing about it is the sheer and utter frustration of seeing people I know well trying to help me finish what I'm saying. Trust me, that doesn't help. It makes it worse (for me anyway)

Thanks Gabrielle, it's just so frustrating when I see people 'take pity on me' and finish my sentences. It makes me feel stupid, or at least that they see me as stupid. I know it's not really the case and they really think they're helping but it just makes me more uncomfortable and makes the whole thing worse until it gets to the point where I abandon whatever it was I was trying to say in the first place.

Bah! People!

And it undoubtedly exacerbates your problem! I am so sorry that you have to endure that sort of "well-meaning" pity! And I wish there was something I could do to help!

Knowing that you're aware of how frustrating it can be for the person with the stammer or stutter is a big help. I know that next time you encounter someone who's having trouble saying whatever it is they're trying to say you won't automatically talk over them or finish the sentence for them.

I'm nowhere near as bad as a lo of people who stutter, it really is just occasionally that it happens to me these days, but it does make me very self conscious. So knowing I have friends like you who care and understand does help a lot. Thank you.

No, I will not try to finish the sentence of someone who stammers or stutters. It's not even polite to do such a thing! I know that I don't like it when people talk over ME or finish MY sentences, so why should I do it to someone else! And there's no need to feel self-conscious, you have important and interesting things to say!
