*Beats characters with a big stick*
Why. Won't. You. Behave?!

Do what you're tellt for crying out loud!

Gah!

Sorry, random character bashing of my own there because they just will not cooperate. They keep wanting to go off and do their own thing which would be fine with me but if I let those two do what they want then all the others will want to as well and there'll be anarchy.

Grrr.

Anyways - for all the UK folks, make sure you are either sitting in front of your TV or at the very least have your VCR or Sky+ set to record Channel Four from 8.30 till 9.30 and then again from 10 till 11. (and if you're quick you could turn over to E4 from 10.55-12 and then back to Sky One for Midnight)

Yup, that's right. After waaaay too long on Channel Four's shelf, Lost finally starts tonight. Yay!! (and it looks as though Sky have moved Wonderfalls to Midnight tonight)

It's a good thing...
Here's the thing...

Sometimes letting your character's run amok is a good idea.

I was totally blocked one day writing an episode while I had Bravo playing their "Monday West Wing Marathon". All of a sudden I started having ideas for a BTVS-West Wing crossover which I tried to shut down.... 'cuz I just don't do crossovers.

And of course I lost out on that because Xander had this thing with CJ Gregg and... well never mind. Long story. Which I wrote and had a blast doing.

So let them have a romp through your imangination. If they're not doing what you tell them to, it's because you've gotten in their heads and they/you have a story to tell about them.

Just make a deal with them....

"Okay you two! I'll write this scene/story for you, but later you have to come back and finish my original idea."

Worked for me and I got two stories to boot.

Re: It's a good thing...
see now I'm tempted to take the two characters and give them their own fic. But knowing me that'll turn into a huge rambling non-stop tale as well...

I've actually worked out a way to let them do what they want to do and still keep it within the original plan, it just means one of the parts of the story is going to be a lot longer than I thought it would be.

Guess there's a reason shows have a team of writers instead of a single, increasingly frustrated one. :)

Maybe you can outsource the problem characters to some trusted writer?

Heh - sharing the insanity could be a good thing!

I'm letting them twist my arm right now, on the understanding that they'll come back to the original framework after they've had their fun. Should the fact I'm thinking of fictional characters as actual people who can exert their will over me make me concerned about my mental health? *g*

Not until they tell you to go out and kill someone. :)
I've got an inner Xander trying to link your comment to religion and I don't know you well enough for that. :) So I'm gonna hit him till he shuts up.

I've had the same thing happen and it's really annoying!

They just will not listen to me, I'm going to have to give into them and let them run riot for a while I think.

*sigh*

That sounds like it will be for the best.

s'kinda worrying me that these fictional characters have the ability to take control of my brain like this...
[identity profile] velvetwhip.livejournal.com on August 10th, 2005 07:53 am (UTC)
It just means you're creative, that's all! Besides, as long as they tidy up the place after they've used it, that's all that matters.

With these two it may be a case of paying for the breakages...

Ah, so they're up to mischief then?

Oh yes. Very definitely so.

No good will come of it. Well, maybe *some* good, but my brain is going to be fried by the end of it all...

I know what you mean *kicks plot bunny*

If it makes you feel any better, I'm still having trouble with getting Buffy and Mal to behave themselves, and so not in a good way either. If they would listen to me, they could finally um ... yeah. But no. They want to fight. *glares*

I feel your frustrated pain.
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on August 10th, 2005 07:48 am (UTC)
*grin* yeah, that's kinda the problem I'm having with these two only in reverse, I want them to fight, they want to... well, you know the rest.

And it's the two I emailed you about.

For SKoH - maybe they need to fight before they go any further?
[identity profile] emeraldswan.livejournal.com on August 10th, 2005 08:05 am (UTC)
Well, they could fight now, but there's gonna be plenty of time for them to fight later . . . plenty of time.

And I like the idea of the two you emailed me about a lot. *nods* Yes. I would so not object to that. :D
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on August 10th, 2005 08:34 am (UTC)
Maybe you should leave them to their own devices just now and focus on another character for a little while? When you come back to them the urge to fight might be all gone...

And yeah, my two are actually getting fun to write at the moment - especially since she still doesn't know his name yet...
