Big Damn Premiere
So it's all over bar the screaming (why oh why do we have to wait so long to see it again! Why didn't I buy tickets for the Best of the Fest screening this weekend?!)

Serenity - fantastic film. Just... wonderful. I still have problems with the ending, and a couple of other niggles but I won't go into them here because I solemly swear I will not spoil anyone who hasn't yet seen it. (If you have - can I suggest [livejournal.com profile] watch_me_soar where I will happily spoil away! *g*). Some of the people who saw the film with the die-hard core four of us (me, [livejournal.com profile] smileawhile, [livejournal.com profile] acrazywench and [livejournal.com profile] engelsteorra being the die-hards!) were not particularly fans of the show before they saw the film - so I was really interested to see their reactions. Positive. All of them. So non-fans can appreciate the quirks of the relatively large cast without previous knowledge. Yay!

This film deserves to be a huge success, going on the immediate press and audience reaction it looks like it will be, but on the other hand I was hearing mumblings from some people exiting the cinema that they were not impressed. There is a different feel to the film - it's not an extended episode of Firefly, the dynamics have shifted between the end of the series and the start of the film. I personally thought it worked - and [livejournal.com profile] acrazywench and I were discussing what could have caused that shift on the drive to the station this morning. We have theories. Again, won't share on my own LJ because it would be spoilery but I'll try to put the thoughts and theories into a cohesive post and put them up in WMS. I think there will be a lot of new fans - but on the other hand I think the film may also lose some Firefly fans. On the other hand (yes, that makes three hands!) it's really worth a second viewing - last night since I knew what was coming up I could pay closer attention to the little things - boy there's a lot going on in that film!

Anyway - I'm veering into the dangerous waters of not being able to say anything more without giving away any plot so I'll stop here. The film is incredible, the writing is sharp as ever, the dialogue is fantastic  (with one exception - I really have an issue with the end...) the action sequences are mind-blowing, the twists and turns are twisty and turny.

As soon as this film comes out you should watch it - whether you liked Firefly or not.

I was worried about how it would go over with people who hadn't seen Firefly, but from the reactions I've heard of non-fans it's been quite positive so far.

Reviews from non-SF people are generally great so hopefully it will be a success.

As regards the shift in attitudes from the end of the series to the start of the film, well that annoyed me a tiny bit too but my friend (who patiently queued both days to get me the best seats in the house- thank you) thought that simply 8 months would lead to that situation which is god enough for me (for the moment, when it comes out for real I am sure I will be back nit picking with the best of you :-) )
