Buncha icons
some from contests, but the first three are kinda inspired by [livejournal.com profile] nemo_gravis's fic Broken even though the Xander one was made a while back, that makes no sense but I'm sleepy so in my head it does... *g*

Want, take, have, credit - you know the deal.

Oh I do love that first Buffy icon. And all the others are wonderful too, of course *s*

It's a shame you don't make Buffy icons very often any more, cause I really enjoy your work.

I have this thing against iconing Buffy and Spike, together or apart, because I have lingering memories of my uni course. I did film studies and was a bit of an expert at the edit suite (this was before digital editing but post physically splicing film) One thing I was damn good at (and usually ended up helping every other group with) was ChromaKey. Or green-screening/blue-screening. The most difficult thing to balance with ChromaKey is anyone with blonde hair - especially if it's from a bottle. When you're doing a ChromaKey balance you're basically replacing one part of the picture with a completely different picture - sounds obvious right? It's done by colour matching, again obvious in retrospect, except it's never an exact colour match - there's shadows, lighting, dust, wear and tear on the blue screen and so on. So you're always going for the best possible compromise. Blondes make that compromise almost impossible - that's why when you watch low-budget films with rear-projection or TV shows with blue screen the chances are if the character is blonde there will be at least one point in the process where they have transparent hair.

Quite a lot of what I do on Photoshop revolves around the same kind of principles as ChromaKey balancing so I have this innate fear of blondes.

Okay, that was a really long and overly technical reason why I don't do it very often but since I have this new found appreciation of the character of Buffy - wonder where that came from? - I'm tempted to do a whole sequence of Buffy icons. *g*

The things you learn while surfing the internet. :)
I had no idea blonde hair made special effects harder.

*g* my mission to be educational is working then...

I think that's why there's a marked move towards using green rather than blue as the base colour these days, it's less of a glaring difference between the background and the hair colour so it's easier to reach the compromise.

And now I'm itching to get back into an edit suite. Dammit!

After careful consideration, I have a request.

If you do make any Buff-tastic icons, could you possibly, perhaps, maybe make a Buffy&Xander icon in the bunch? No need for anything shippy, but it's rare to see any pics show just the two of them kidding around together as they did sometimes in the show and I've been kinda searching everywhere *looks pitiful*
