so [livejournal.com profile] nemo_gravis tagged me for the idiosyncrasy meme and you know me, never one to turn down a good meme. Except, I couldn't really think of anything so I asked a couple of people.

I apparently have some kind of nervous disorder which results in all sorts of physical manifestations of retreat and protection. The evidence:

  • I constantly run my hand through my hair - this one I kinda knew about and had never really thought of it being a trait. It's more a frustration thing, rubbing my temples morphs into my hand going back through my hair.

  • I giggle a little at the end of every sentence. Classic sign of insecurity. (Possibly a hangover from the days I struggled to finish a sentence.)

  • I sit on my hands a lot. That is a also mostly a conscious thing - otherwise I fidget - but it's also a sign of insecurity.

  • I stomp. The phrase "like a baby elephant" was used. I knew I walked fast but stomping... never really thought of it like that before.

  • When I'm standing talking to someone I tend to stand with my thumbs in the belt loops at the back of my jeans. Kinda like I've got my hands on my hips but less threatening. I did a body-language seminar thing a couple of years back and that's supposed to be a woman's way of presenting her 'assets' to the world, except when I do it I'm in a permanent semi-shrug so it negates that. I also apparently take a half-step back and rock back on my heels all the time. That's a classic retreat/defence mechanism that I didn't realise I did. Huh.

  • Apparently my ever-expanding Buffy trivia is intimidating. My ability to quote directly from a scene, be able to tell the episode, the writer (and sometimes director) instantly is apparently scary. And I'm expanding it into Firefly as well.

And all of this though, according to one person, has a directly inverse correlation to what I'm like when I'm drunk when I become "incredibly extroverted and bossy". Oh-kay....

I really don't have issues with any of this by the way - it's just odd that other people noticed these things about me when I never did. Oh, and also scary that my immediate reaction was to see them all as negative. Hey! That might just be my ultimate idiosyncrasy! Seeing absolutely everything in a really negative light. The ultimate pessimist.

(I'll do the meme properly later - just found this kinda... enlightening.)

How can your ever expanding knowledge of Buffy be intimidating? It should be nourished and encouraged so that none of us have to go scrabbling through books or the internet trying to find out a certain phrase that a character said in the 23rd minute of S3 Programme 13.

See, not so good with the stats thing, but hey. Bad Girls, written by Doug Petrie, 23rd minute would be about the time where Faith accidentally kills Alan Finch so the dialogue would be:

Buffy - We're never going to make it to the warehouse.
Faith - If they keep coming one at a time we got a shot
Buffy (grabs a figure swings him for Faith to get in play, realizes her mistake and shouts) - Faith! No!

How's that?

Too bad episode 13 of S3 was actually The Zeppo, not Bad Girls.

*grins*

*whispers* When I grabbed that one out of the air I thought that it was Bad Girls as well.

Really? Huh. Told you I was crap at stats.

Okay, in that case - The Zeppo, written by Dan Veber (but reputedly largely re-written by Joss Whedon). Directed by Whitmore. 23rd minute would actually probably be around either the

"Have I mentioned I'm having a very strange night?" moment or the "Wait a minute... they're not baking a cake." line.

I may just have to rewatch it to find out exactly where 23 minutes hits.

by the way
(The reason I can make educated guesses as to what makes the 23rd minute is that in time scale format that's pretty close to an act break.)

Re: by the way
I know, that's why I chose the 23rd minute. *g*

So, pretty much everyone is going for the fun angle, and you had to get all deep.

But interesting life you've had. Psychology, Graphics, Web Design, likes Jazz and being in the mosh pit...

And can I point out how much those last two items seem incompatible? Though I've never been to a Jazz concert...
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on September 8th, 2005 11:27 am (UTC)
*g* sorry 'bout the deepness, didn't mean it to be. I just was a little surprised at some of the things that came out of the conversation and had to share.

And I have the oddest music tastes of anyone I know. I love jazz, but I'm also a rock chick at heart - jazz concerts don't tend to have mosh pits. Well, not the ones I go to anyway! (Plus, I also listen to Wagner, some pop, country (not country and western!), some dance (Chemical Brothers and Basemaent Jaxx are about my limit though), folk, 80s electronica...

Yeah, varied would just about cover it!

I think the term you're looking for is eclectic. *g* But feel free to ignore the non native speaker. :)

And no problemo on the deepness, kinda helped build a mental picture on you. Which I'm sure you'll blow away next time you post anything personal, my mental picture of you isn't all that solid.

As for music taste :
- Rammstein
- Iron Maiden
- Metallica
- Danny Elfman
- Heroes del Silencio
- Shakira
- Avril Lavigne
- Anastacia

What JG said.

And I think my mind melted a little bit on the 'assets' presenting thing :)

So you probably don't want to read this part then.

I think I need to go and... Hmmm... Water! Lots and lots of very cold water, that's the ticket... Hmmm... AGH!

Hold up! Let me see if I got this straight. You consider your deep rooted knowledge of Buffy a bad thing? Yes, clearly there is something very strange going on with you... ;)
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on September 9th, 2005 12:32 am (UTC)
Hehehe! I always thought it was just a quirk of mine but apparently other people find it scary. It's clearly their problem though - where's the bad in having an encyclopaedic knowledge of 144 episodes of a TV show? *g*
