Hmmm
Box office returns are not looking good for Serenity. It's by no means a failure, but it's only just hit $10million in the first weekend - not what UIP were hoping for to ensure a sequel. It may pick up, it may have staying power, the international markets may make the difference, but right now it's not looking great.

Okay, other stuff - [livejournal.com profile] jgracio  emailed me yesterday to let me know that INAP was playing up a little - PHP trouble. By the time I checked my email and checked the site it was back up and running but this is starting to worry me a little as it's the second time this week there's been trouble with it. It may be teething issues with the new host, I hope that's all it is, but if any of you spot any trouble with it can you let me know asap? Cheers!

The fics that I was hoping to have finished on Thursday withered up again. I will have them done, because it's really annoying me now that I can't seem to finish anything I start these days. So... concerted effort this week. I will have at least two of my WIPs updated by next weekend. Hand on heart.

Finally - did some more graphics work tonight, I was making a couple of entries for some icon contests and kinda got into the groove a little so.. Here they are (not the contest ones I hasten to add, 'cause they're still anonymous until voting's over!)

Weren't they looking for fourty million in the US market? How much were they looking for for the first weekend?

It really needed to pass $10 million easily (and probably be in the top two or three position in the box office) to keep it open in as many screens next week - which then lead to a third week and so on, ultimately leading to the $40 million overall take.

It's looking marginally better, the projected Sunday figures are taking it higher and may push it into second place for the weekend (behind Tim Burton's Corpse's Bride). So it's not over yet...

It is in second behind Flightplan on the published figures at the moment Sho.

Seeing how it is in relatively few screens it's doing pretty good, just needs more screens. Guess we'll see.

They were hoping to make $80million to guarentee sequals, roughly $40million from the US market. The majority of this is made up in the first four weeks of a movies release. The general formula is that the opening weekend times 2.8 gets you the four week figure so they'd have been hoping for a figure somewhere between $14 and $14.5 million.

Hum... Unrealistic expectations for a non Summer flick? Or not?

Well, 'Shark Tale' opened on the same weekend last year and grossed $45million for the weekend, and Ladder 49 also opened this weekend and grossed $20million for it's first three days.

Okay, so we knew Serenity wasn't going to be the Blockbuster Shark Tale was, but $14million wasn't really that unrealistic. But all along Joss has been saying that it'll be the second weekend that matters. A great opening weekend would have been brilliant, but most films have a 40% drop off for the second weekend. So that'd be roughly $6million for next weekend. So if it can make about $8million or more next weekend I would see that as more promising than the $10million opening weekend because it'll mean it's got legs.

Just taken a look over at PN, which for some reason I hadn't done in ages! Loads of fantastic new icons! Gacked a few, (some new, some old), which I will duly credit when used! Just hadn't mentioned how much I like your graphics in a while, so thought I oughta!

Thanks Sam! I still have a few contest entries which I haven't gotten round to adding to PN yet. Hey, maybe I should do that this afternoon... *g*
