Huh?
Okay - I have a question for fic-type people. What's the deal with animal-AUs?Y'all know my feelings of RPF/RPS and I'm not the world's biggest fan of all-human AUs (I've read one and only one - a multiple award winner no less - to see what the fuss was about, I didn't get it.) But Animal AU? WTF?

I don't want to offend anyone but I seriously do not get why someone would write a story that fits this summary: "Spike the hedgehog wants to get to know Xander the frog better. Will he find a way?" (I thought it was a joke, it's not, it's hedgehog/frog and it's NC-17.)

(I'm up to J in the INAP checking, so if you're really interested you can safely assume this story is on INAP and the title starts with a letter between A and J)

ETA INAP Progress - all stories are now checked out, 65 need to be sorted. Allegedly I can do this by manually editing the entries in the MySQL database, it's supposedly worked for someone else who was having the same issues with an efiction site, only problem is - I hate databases. With a fiery passion that could melt glass.

Wish me luck!

eta again strike that last, nothing makes any kind of sense so I'm going to go cap BB&B and come back to INAP tomorrow!

*boggles*
Well, I'd still like to know why someone thought of writing a story where Xander and Spike get turned into tigers and stay that way. But frog/hedgehog? At least the tigers are the same species.

Re: *boggles*
All that goes through my head every time I think about it is Nanny Ogg's favourite song about hedgehogs...

I think there has to be some kind of alcohol or other mind-altering substance involved in the story conception somewhere!

Ok you lost me.
What does RPF/RPS and AU stand for.
As regards making charaters animals? What ever floats their boat.
Little crazy sounding to me!

RPF - Real Person Fic
RPS - Real Person Slash (although some people say it stands for Real Person Story)
AU - Alternate Universe (bearing little or no relation to canon)
AR - Alternate Reality (stays in canon up to a point and then makes a break from it - a 'road not taken' type of thing)

The Frog/Hedgehog thing just seems so odd to me! Why would that even come into someones head!

Ah Ha! Thanks.

Yeah, more than a little strange really.
Wonder do they also collect chainsaws and wet the bed?

Ha!

Bit harsh I suppose but really I'm with you on not really understanding that!

DB's rule!

Also, what's not to love? See, with the animal AU fanfiction you gain in your ability to describe the animals. If I say Spike the shark, you instantly have a very distinct picture of a bleached blond, leather wearing, bad ass, vampire shark, which of course looks nothing like your standard shark. Also, the Spike shark has an English accent. :)

Angelus the Eagle! What a sadistic Eagle, looks like DB, with the black hair, and smokes and wears leather pants... Not to be confused with Angel the Eagle, which doesn't really smoke, doesn't wear leather and broods a lot, but which also looks like DB.

If I say Faith the Fox fights Buffy the Golden Retriever does it not instantly bring you images of a dark haired, tough, sexy, leather wearing Fox fighting a blonde, dressed in stylish yet affordable clothes, and depending on Season likeable or not Golden Retriever?

The world needs more Animal AU Turtle slash, I say! Turtle slash! :)

Okay, I got nothing. I don't understand the all human AU, and I sure as hell don't understand Animal AU's.

Wonder if there's an all humanized Animal Historical setting AU? With Rupertus Giles the Roman senator Owl dressed in a toga arguing with Angelius Aurelius the mean Roman General Tiger! And Alexander Harrius the hare, best friend of Willownus Rosenberg the mouse. With Williamix "Spike" the Barbarian huh, Bear.

Don't do drugs, okay? :)

Lol!
Just reading the Electric Cool Aid Acid Test and now that you mention it the Animal AU suff could be straight out of it. Definitely a warning to us all :-)

Now that is just begging to be turned into story format - you up for it?

Don't tell me you've never seen a kids animated series based on The three musketeers? It was a huge hit around here (and Spain and Brazil too, maybe Japan also).

Think "The three musketeers" but replace the characters by dogs, cats and rats. I loved it, but then again, I was too young to know any better. :)

And you just want me to write it so people can mock me behind my back! Heh. :)

"Dogtanion and the three Muskerhounds"! - I LOVED that show!

Dartacão e os Três Muscãoteiros. :)

I'm starting to think we're around the same age. And I'm shocked, shocked you guys in the UK actually imported Spanish kids series. Heh. :)

Animal AU? Are people that desperate for a new idea? Seriously, I don't understand all human AU either. They generally bear no resememblance to the actual characters, other than names, so why not call it what it is? An original story using BtVS character names. But animals...
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on January 7th, 2006 10:23 am (UTC)
It genuinly makes no sense to me at all - I can *almost* inderstand why people write all human AU - but then, like you say, why not just admit they're writing an original fic using recognised character names? - animal AU though, it's just a scary thought!
[identity profile] shannon730.livejournal.com on January 7th, 2006 10:25 am (UTC)
I particularily like that it's cross-species.
[identity profile] velvetwhip.livejournal.com on January 7th, 2006 08:41 am (UTC)
I had not heard of Animal AU's until now. I wish I hadn't.

Heh! It's been a while since there's been a challenge on the BBBFic list - maybe we should try this one!
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on January 7th, 2006 10:23 am (UTC)
I'm almost tempted to go back to read this one, but it is only an almost!
