I want one of these...

I really, really, really want one of those.

(ETA it's not a completely random interest, by the way, my dad was a biker and a lot of my extended family are too. That bike in the picture is a Norton, one of the makes my dad favoured (he had Triumphs too) and that particular one is from the year I was born. I want it. Badly.)

It's a thing of beauty isn't it?

*sigh*

One day...

Here in the USA, bikers are a disreputable and unhygienic lot (and I have had one or twenty bad biker-related experiences). Nice to know that the same is not true everywhere and that there is a place in the world where motorcycles do not automatically mean filth and criminal behaviour.

There is an element of that here, but it's a very small element. We don't tend to have 'choppers' (in fact that show airs on one of the documentary channels and makes me cringe every time!) and bikes and bikers are generally envied rather than abhorred. At least by everyone I know anyway!

You're lucky that bikers are a better class of people there! I think that's terrific!

OMG! Our dad's must be twins LOL My dad owned Nortons and Triumps also! :D I want a Harley though. Our neighbor has one and I'm super jealous.

btw - not sure if Sasha contacted you yet - but one of your Xaith icons (woulda coulda shoulda) is featured @ Solace :D

*Triumphs. ugh!
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on July 13th, 2006 08:21 am (UTC)
*g* Our dad's had good taste! I've never really been tempted by Harleys but I've only seen them from a distance, I get the feeling if I saw one up close it'd be an instant addition into the "I want one!" category!

And *squee*! Thank you! I'd almost forgotten about that icon!

::drools discretely::
Definitely highly desirable!

I rode motorbikes most of my life - didn't own a car until I was 36. All japs though; I never got into the old ones in a big way. Some of my friends had old BSAs and although they were fun to ride they spend so much time and money working on them that I never really got sufficiently enthusiastic about them to buy one. A friend used to race and I'd help pit for him. When they had vintage races he'd go out on his BSA.

Eventually I got tired of being rained on and not being able to carry anything heavy and bought a car. Ideally I'd like both but I can't afford it until I win Lotto. :-(

I'm currently adding images to an "I want one of those..." gallery in my scrapbook. That Norton is in there, a Sunbeam, and actually a new(ish) bike as well - a Triumph Daytona. I tend to go for the classics more because I grew up round them, but they must be a bugger to keep on the road!

One of these days I'll get one, I think I'll sell the car and buy one... :)

Norton, triumphs all come with their own oil patch on the garage floor.....

From a biking family and currently a Ducati widow. Motorbikes are fantastic. We toured England and Scotland on our motorbike for honeymoon.

Have you passed your bike test Sho?

*needs a motorbike icon*

Heh! I don't have a garage though so it'd be an oil patch on the drive. At least it might help keep the weeds down! *g*

I actually haven't passed my bike test, my dad got rid of his bikes just before Sis was starting to think about learning to drive and both she and I were discouraged from ticking that little box of the license application form (showing my age I think, they probably don't have that ticky box anymore!). I have ridden bikes though, more or less legally - the joys of living in the country with private roads and lots of fields... *g*

I was forcibly restraining myself from making motorbike icons last night as well - I may have to give in over the weekend!

I gave way to my needs - as you can see and I need to make a Ducati one - something from the Matrix I think.

I have happy memories sitting on the banks of Loch Lomond watching the sunset with our crash helmets on so the midges couldn't eat us - hehe
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on July 13th, 2006 10:19 am (UTC)
Ha! They were my local midges when I grew up - Avon Skin So Soft is the best midge repellent out there. Not entirely sure why... but it really works!

Or Brut aftershave also keeps the nasty blighters away. The stench clearly why!
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on July 13th, 2006 11:54 am (UTC)
*keeps away more than just the midges...*

*g*

That sounded SO romantic....right up until the midges LOL!!

Ducati...*drool*
