odd weekend. Odder Monday

I am off the wagon, officially. I got more than a li'l drunk on Friday and fell asleep watching HGttG on Paramount 2. Woke up halfway through the repeat of the first episode after falling asleep midway through the third. That was decidedly odd.

Spent all day Saturday not being talked to by my nephew (and neice 'cause she's at the stage where she copies everything her big brother does) and zoning out. Ate at MacDonalds which I hate. Had more beer and watched SPN.

Sunday... spent most of the morning (and a good deal of the afternoon) collecting and burning a twenty track compilation CD which'll be the soundtrack for NaNoWriMo this year.. and drinking beer. Realised about seven o'clock that the only thing I'd actually eaten all weekend was the Grilled Vegie Melt Deli Sandwich at McD's and stuck some Spring rolls in the oven. Fell asleep and woke up to realise that the clocks had gone back on Sunday morning. Reset my alarm and fell asleep again.

My alarm didn't go off this morning. I have no idea why, I probably screwed it up when I reset the times but it seems okay.

So I have not had breakfast, I've had very little to eat all weekend and I'm kinda hungover.

Oh, and I forgot my meds this morning.

My head is going to explode.

Haven't seen Torchwood yet by the way - I think it should have taped last night, but going on the alarm clock fiasco I have no idea if it did or not. Guess I'll find out tonight, if I manage to make it home without turning into a short-lived character in a remake of Scanners...

eta it's bad enough that there's no coffee worth drinking in this place, but there's no damn sugar either... I can't even prop myself up with caffeine now. Oh good grief I am going to be such a cow by this afternoon...

Hah - got wrecked and your alarm clock didn't go off huh? Sounds like our average Sunday/Monday ;)

We all got dressed, I made pack up and slicked Ellie into shape for school - got there on time only to find it deserted. Yep, no school today or tomorrow *doh* when did that happen

Oh and try not to let your head explode, I like your head especially where it is.

[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 10:42 am (UTC)(link)
*g*

Just had a dull meeting which went over my tea break as well so I've had to sneak down to the vending machine and leave the office empty for a second just to grab something. And they had no sandwiches! Gah! A muffin'll have to do till I wander down to M&S at lunch I guess.

*points and laughs*

no school! Ha!

[identity profile] thedothatgirl.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 10:54 am (UTC)(link)
M&S sandwiches hmmm.... *makes Homer Simpson donut appreciation sounds*

Please mock to your heart's content - you'd have thought that after the first time I did the 'no school today' thing I would have checked. At least today we drove there. I am sad in so many ways.

[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 11:12 am (UTC)(link)
Mmmmm M&S sushi...

*g*

*still sniggering a little*

I meant to email you back yesterday... sorry! I'll send you the PSD file for that banner tonight (and if you haven't got it by tomorrow then throw something at me!) and... I shouldn't be showing this 'cause it's for the 100days100icons thing and I haven't posted it there yet, but the animated banners you want to make - along the lines of this (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v212/momentslost/100d100i-dean012.gif) but with longer animations? Dead easy to make. Li'l time consuming but dead easy.

[identity profile] thedothatgirl.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 01:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Ok thanks :) I thought simple animation mainly 3 or 4 stills within a frame - I think I can do it but I may come running. And that icon oooh pretty :D

Sending you a mail.....

[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
really simple to do once you get a feel for ImageReady. :)

*goes to check email*

[identity profile] smhwpf.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 11:10 am (UTC)(link)
Oog. Hope your head feels better and less 'splodey.

I'm reckoning watching Torchwood should cheer you up a bit though. 'twas pretty darn good IMO. :)

[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 11:18 am (UTC)(link)
I figure if it hasn't taped I can always try to grab the torrent for it whilst watching the HGttG episodes that I taped on Friday (I knew I'd never make it to the 3.40 end time so...)

I grabbed a muffin at break there and I've checked a few health sites which confirm that skipping a dose isn't going to affect me too much for my meds (although it's probably as well that this is an 'up' day rather than the 'crawl into the corner and die...' kind.

:)

[identity profile] monkey-matt.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 11:20 am (UTC)(link)
I love beer.

The feeling isn't always mutual...

Yeah, had a couple of days of bleurgh also. Like I said.

Plus I'm a dunce.

[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 11:23 am (UTC)(link)
must be something in the water. (or the beer...)

I screw up my alarm clock, [livejournal.com profile] thedothatgirl forgets there's no school today and you go into a temporal vortex and repeat past mistakes.

Which, by the way, makes you a numpty.

I think we should declare today to be a 'do over day'. We'll get it right the second time 'round won't we?

[identity profile] monkey-matt.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 11:45 am (UTC)(link)
Yup. This weekend was a complete waste of time - we should totally get another, right now to compensate for the lack of a decent one.

[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 11:48 am (UTC)(link)
a whole weekend again? Not sure I could handle that... all that time, what would I do with myself? (Y'know, other than writing the OFWI2 fic, finishing the 100days100icons icons, helping sis with her college stuff...)

BTW, I'm not making a Jack O'Lantern for the office. Can't be arsed right now.

[identity profile] monkey-matt.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 11:52 am (UTC)(link)
Nope. Quite right. And I'm not bringing mine in, cos it's feckin' huge.

[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 12:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Mind = gutter.

*shakes head*

[identity profile] monkey-matt.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 12:13 pm (UTC)(link)
If it weren't for the gutter, your mind would be homeless...

[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 12:28 pm (UTC)(link)
True.

And also

*back! Evil shellfish spawn of Satan!*

(she said with sushi sitting on her desk...)

[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
:p

Never said I was perfect. Just kinda assumed everyone would see that..

T?

[identity profile] monkey-matt.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 12:50 pm (UTC)(link)
...says she who is never wrong.

Aha...

[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I am never wrong.

Sometimes what is fact might be slightly beside where I'm currently positioned, but that doesn't make me not right.

And you never answered. T?

[identity profile] monkey-matt.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I.

Oh, and speaking to the converted, cos that sounds suspiciously close to the definition of a "Matt Fact"...

[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
zis mean I have to stand up now? *sigh*

I mean, your desk is at least ten steps away...

Heh! And also - being hypocritical doesn't mean I'm wrong, just that I was being a little bit of a hypocrite.

Mmmmm sushi....

[identity profile] monkey-matt.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmm... Lobster.

♪♫ What's that com-ing over the hill,
Is it a Lobster, is it a Lobster...♫♪

I'm going to do a starter with lobster, green salad and dipping sauces. What do you reckon I should use as the sauces?

[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 01:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Thai red chilli (sweet), Hoi Sin (although that might be a little strong), something Wasabi based maybe and then of course your bog-standard mayo. Maybe with some lemongrass and tarragon in the mayo to give it something extra.

Man, I'm hungry again now!

[identity profile] monkey-matt.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Nifty.

I was thinking about doing a garlic mayo, or possibly an aïoli. And of course some kind of thousand-island dressing derivative. Cos it's seafood, and folk'll expect it.

[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 01:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Might be better with dill rather than tarragon actually, I usually have taragon & lemongrass with chicken rather than seafood. No reason why it wouldn't work.

I kinda hate 1000 island dressing, I always throw in pepper sauce 'cause it's too blank otherwise.

What's it for anyway?

[identity profile] monkey-matt.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I cheat with thousand island. Probably not the right way to make it at all, but I use: mayo, greek yoghurt, paprika, dill, lemon juice, black pepper, tomato purée, oregano and a teensy bit of salt.

[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds about right to me actually - although using both mayo and yoghurt seems a bit much in a way.

I'd tend to use cayenne rather than paprike and maybe throw in some dead-rotted-fish sauce as well. :)

[identity profile] monkey-matt.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 01:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmm.... dead rotted fish sauce...

[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 01:19 pm (UTC)(link)
*g*

*sing song voice* we broke my LJ, we broke my LJ *stops singing*

wtf is it with acetates today?!

And mmmm dead-rotted-fish-sauce. Nothing better than a splash of that on grilled cheese on toast...

[identity profile] monkey-matt.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
(think we should tell everyone what stinky-dead-rotted-fish-sauce is, or will they all be able to guess)

I vote we ban acetates.

[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 01:22 pm (UTC)(link)
(nah, I think we should just leave it to their imagination. *g*)

So long as I don't have to do the acetates I'm fine with it. I just find it dead funny that T is the only one who actually follows the protocol and is sending you guys to do it for him. Hee!

[identity profile] jgracio.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
You guys don't want anyone to overhear recipes? :)

[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
closely guarded culinary secrets there...

*g*

[identity profile] jgracio.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I could try and read it, but I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to uncross my eyes afterwards. :D

Also, Rotting Fish? Ah well, the British Isles were never famous for their cuisine (just notice how the word cuisine is French, there's a clue right there! :).

[identity profile] monkey-matt.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Marinated Anchovies.

A staple of all Mediterranean cooking.

Basically, what you do, right, is you get halfanchovies, salt them, put them in a big tub, and leave them to rot for a few months. Then, you strain off all the solid bits and bottle the resulting, rotten-fish-flavoured goo. A major ingredient in many fish flavoured sauces including... (cue the dramatic music)

♪♫ Dah-dah-dah... ♫♪

Worcestershire Sauce.

Mmm... worcestershire sauce...

[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 02:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Oy! Giving away the closely guarded (yeah right) secret like that!

Expecially to that cheeky Spaniard...

*eg*

[identity profile] jgracio.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
See, that would work better if I thought we should remain an independent nation. And I'm not so sure of that.

I mean, as long as nobody forced me to speak Spanish / anything other than my own language, I don't think I'd really care. In fact I'm an Euro Federalist. All this being independant of each other business gets us is that Europeans don't like each other.

Hum... That was probably too serious for this convo. :)

[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, a very sensible attitude which is a good model to follow.

Now I'm going to be stuck with deep thoughts all afternoon.

[identity profile] jgracio.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Oi, don't do that. You're trampling on my pre conceived notions that people in Britain drink something in the water that makes them dislike the idea of Euro Federalism (maybe it's just the idea of being thrown in with the rest of us continental types) :D

Actually I just think that if Texans and Californians can live in the same country then all us Europeans can too. :)

[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 03:16 pm (UTC)(link)
The slogan for the Scottish National Party used to be "Indepence in Europe" - it is actually a fairly ongoing mood in Scotland anyway. I'm Scottish first, European second and... not British at all.

It's a dichotomy, and it makes no sense, but it's in my bones . :)

[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Independence...

*shakes head*

[identity profile] jgracio.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
See, the difference is that we don't call it Rotted Fish sauce. :D

Marketing.

It's the difference between eating a delicious "Bacalhau com Batatas a Murro" and eating salted cod fish with grilled potatos (add olive oil, salt and rotting wine). :)

Friends!

[identity profile] lmzjewel.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey Mara! (: I'm sorry to hear that you had such a rough morning. I hope your afternoon will go much better. I also wanted to let you know that I finally got myself an LJ account and that I've friended you.

There's just no justice in the world.

And Monkey waving a cup of particularly good coffee under my nose at around 11am was not appreciated...
