And the shocker of The Return of The Master!!!!

Derek Jacobi was brilliant and truthfully, I'm a little sad he won't be playing that role. I screamed, I jumped and generally scared the whole neighborhood. That's how surprised I was. And I don't live in the UK at all, though we do get the Beeb for which I'm ever thankful.

I even wrote a small post about this ep just now.

Brilliant. Simply brilliant. And yes, Russell has come a long way because I truly never ever saw this coming.

I have to admit, I was ever-so-slightly spoiled that the "you are not alone" referred to The Master - but I really didn;t exect it to be *now*

The twists though - I didn't see those coming at all!

Now, speculation-wise, do you think that the guys with the bad teeth are actually going to end up being the good guys in the next episode or is it just me....?

I was sitting watching the ep, rocking with my hands over my mouth muttering "He's the Master, I was right, it's the Master" Then I actually squealed and clapped.

Then the previews for next week? more squealing and clapping.

I'm (a)so never right about that kind of thing and (b)still scared of the master :D

Rusty? Rules

I was on my feet, hands in front of my mouth, saying "it's The Master... DUDE!!!" the whole time!

As I said last night, I was a teeny bit spoiled for the finale, but I didn't think the reveal would be this early!

Rusty... if he would forget about romanticising the show then yes, he rules!!!

I knew that Jacobi would regenerate into Simm and be the Master but I was still sat going omg.
"Yeah let him open the watch next to the door of the open TARDiS" *g*. Should make for an interesting couple of episodes. I've only ever seen one episode of classic Who and I'm excited.

I don't think I've ever actually seen a "Master" episode of classic Who, but I'm totally psyched about the rest of the season now.

Yeah I can say without a doubt that was my fav episode of this season.

I had guessed he was going to be the master when John Simm was announced as playing some character called "The Professor" but as I am out of the Doctor Who loop since the departing of CE I wasn't actually spoiled for it.

Love Jack being back and this is the only episode of the season I have the urge to download and re-watch. John Simm also regenerates standing up, takes me back to the days of "Nine does it standing up".

I loved RTD season one (or whatever season Nines was in relation to old DW) but after that not so much, he does have moments of genius but some of the episodes he has written make me cringe.

The Parting Of The Ways will remain my fav and most heart breaking episode of DW (Only Supernatural and certain Buffy/Angel can destroy me more) EVER!

Ok, I'm going to ramble and I may be a little controversial.

I guessed that the 'you are not alone' referred to the Master; if there was going to be another Timelord in existence it had to be him. And while I'm glad that there is scope for the Master to be there, I'm not convinced that Russell T. (I'm going to mess with cannon a fair bit, have a few continuity issues and write some sucky episodes but the occasional good one) Davies is going to treat the Master with the respect he deserves.

I love John Simm and I love the idea of him playing a bad guy, but I think he may be too similar to David Tennant for it to work. I know we've only had the regeneration scene so far, but the moments of him as the Master were too similar to David Tennant's Doctor. Also, they are of an age and a similar build, since there is less of a visual contrast between them than you used to get with the Master/Doctor, the writing and characterisation will have to be that much better for the Master to succeed and I'm not convinced they will pull it off. The traditional Master has a certain look, you could spot him anywhere; he was sinister, malevolent and incredibly different in character to the Doctor. (I think maybe someone like Alan Rickman could pull off the evilness (and the look) of the traditional Master).

Now it could all go very well and there could be some good episodes, but it could go the way of the new cyberman and recent dalek moments and be a bit pants, turning something with the potential to be quite dark and sinister into something annoying and a bit laughable.

I could rant some more, but I won't because this isn't my LJ!*g*

See, I saw the similarity between the regenerations and the aftermaths as being very much deliberate. On the one hand there's our protagonist - the Doctor - who we see as the 'good guy'; and on the other we have the antagonist - the Master - the 'bad guy'. The fact that their beginnings (in these incarnations) are so markedly similar is quite startling I think. From the preview I think Simm is doing well on the sinister aspects - and yes, there are reflections of the Doctors 'glee' in what I've seen so far, but they're 'reflections' as in the exact opposite.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this unfold - but I'm quite prepared for Rusty to let me down again and screw this up.

Yes I did, thanks very much to you and smileawhile :) And tomorrow I get to eat it - if a meeting we've squeezed into a lunchbreak doesn't stop me! (The food is all I'm looking forward to tomorrow - I start with a meeting on a train at 7.30, followed by a day long seminar with half a meeting squeezed into the lunchtime and the other half after the seminar's finished. I feel some sarcastic 'yay'ing coming on!)

You're right, it could be a good reflection thing - and watching Confidential that certainly seems to be the way it was intended - but I'm reserving judgement. I think I'd feel easier if Stephen Moffat (writer of Coupling series as well as Blink) writes some more eps rather than RTD just because lately RTD seems to suffer from RSI (repetitive story imagery).

I have to admit that although I've been enjoying the episodes, the impetus to create hasn't been there this year. Until now. :)
