I just read the news; this world has gone crazy.

It's just insane. I feel so terrible that there's always reports about bombings in the Middle East or somewhere else, but as soon as this hit so close to home everything just stopped for me.

Luckily it seems so far that the only injury is to the guy who was in the car.

Yeah, thank God.

The arrogance of those across the ocean drives me crazy sometimes. I had the TV on all friggin day, and not ONCE did I see a mention of this. I had on Fox and CBS in the evening and then I watched Saturday Night Live... and nothing. Not even a mention during the advertisements for the news on the stations. I guess if it's not happening in the US it doesn't count. Jesus Christ. I had to go *search* for information once I saw your post.

The two car bombs in London (and the suspected one in Liverpool) didn't explode and there was no injuries in Glasgow other than one of the guys in the car, so I figure people be trying to downplay it a little?

But I do know the feeling - it can be so hard to find non-biased news even in Scotland when something happens outwith our own small worldview.

But I can remember a time where any act like this - especially since it's apparently the THIRD act in TWO DAYS - would have made big news worldwide. Now? It's more a case of, "It didn't happen in the US and it doesn't look like it's something about to happen in the US and it doesn't affect us directly, so we aren't going to bother with it." I mean, Bush hasn't even made a statement, not even just, "Our thoughts and prayers are with them." Considering he's a real Bible-thumper and all... it just makes me so mad. AMERICA IS NOT THE CENTER OF THE GODDAMNED UNIVERSE. Ther eare things that happen outside your borders. Get your collective heads out of your asses, and pay attention to the world as a whole - and I don't mean send more troops to Iraq; that is NOT helping any. And with the government in Canada currently trying to fellate Bush at all turns, they aren't helping EITHER.

This is a longstanding peeve of mine being brought to the forefront. I'm very glad no one died, but someone *could* have died quite easily, you know? I guess no body count equals no ratings, so forget about it. *scowls mightily*

I know exactly where you're coming from, I do find it beggars belief sometimes just what makes the news. Has Ms Hilton been in the headlines much this weekend - just out of interest. It does seem like socialites like her are more important than carbombs sometimes. In the eyes of news editors anyway.

Definitely on Friday night. I haven't paid much attention to the news today, as I was out earlier and missed the early news, and was watching the Linkin Park live concert on MuchMusic during the late news... I admit I get most of my news online. But they do run adverts for the upcoming top news stories during commercial breaks of shows, and there was nothing.

Okay, that? Pisses me off as well. More so than the feeble BBC coverage right now - they're trying to manipulate the agenda right now in a way I'm used to the BBC doing but right now I'd just like to know the facts - that's seriously self-centred and... arrogant. Yeah, that's the word.

see, i never read the news. so i have no clue what's going on. i live in London, people have asked me if i'm okay, and i'm still clueless. we were told at the museum yesterday to be especially prepared if there's an evac. and that the numbers may be down because of recent events (TOTALLY didn't happen, i ended up doing my crowd-control thing. that shouty organisey thing i did at Asylum even tho i wasn't a steward? museum's fault) ans i STILL don't know what's going on!!

then again, that whole bombing thing that July, i didn't hear about until i got a whole load of panicked phone calls. Though i did wonder why there were all these businesspeople walking in the City... businesspeople never walk anywhere. and i had planned to be in Liverpool St station around the time that bomb went off - go my procrastinatey self!

So what's happening?

There were two unexploded car bombs in London on Friday, no one injured, cars were removed and I'm hearing now that two people have been arrested in connection with that. Yesterday, around 3 in the afternoon, a car was driven into the entrance at Glasgow Airport. Car was on fire, as was one of the two people inside the car. It was full of propane gas cannisters and exploded as it hit. It got caught up at the door and didn't make it far into the terminal, and apart from the guy who was in the car on fire, it looks like there's no injuries. The airport is only just starting to reopen, and it seems like the car is still there waiting for clearance from the fire brigade to remove it.

They've now confirmed they're treating it as a terrorist action, and that it was linked to the London attacks.

There's also been a suspect car removed from Liverpuul John Lennon Airport but I think that's been given the all clear now.

Some people are saying they saw him trying to throw petrol bombs from inside the car so it looks like he was one of the perpetrators. He's in hospital in Paisley right now (critical condition) and apparently had something on him that led to a partial evacuation of the hospital as well.

nasty. well i feel less bad about him being on fire now. although, i've never understood why anyone would set themselves on fire.

To be fair to CNN and FOX I caught fairly extensive coverage between 16:00 and 18:00 uk time as I flicked between the various channels all seemed to have fairly wall to wall coverage bar CNBC.

I do agree though that we have to guard against complacency as there did seem to be a note of that informing the coverage. You have to wonder why the alert level was not a critical before the attacks seems a bit like an intelligence failure to me although of course it will be very hard to capture all the plots these men of evil are undertaking.

I'm watching Sunday AM on BBC 1 right now (because News 24 is annoying me a lot with the attempts to impose the BBC's agenda). Gordon Brown was just talking about the terror threat and said that it's been at level 2 for a long time, it's now been stepped up to critical (level 1) after the attack at the airport yesterday.

I have to admit that because I have family and friends closer to the airport than me, I've been watching the BBC and local news pretty exclusively to try to get as much information about the local area as possible, so I'm not really aware of how the international media are treating this.

Good to hear you're okay. I didn't even know about the one in Liverpool, and I bloody live there!

It's bloody unpleasant (and work tommorrow is going to be fun if the alert level stays up at critical) and it's so close to home, too. I was watching to see if our lovely first minister was going to say much, but he appears to be a bit useless altogether and the news is now annoying me too much to continue watching.

Looks like every Summer Great Britain is under attack. Hopefully they won't be able to hurt or kill anyone.

I am just so glad no one outside of those involved in the attack was harmed, it is incredibly scary though and my first thought when I saw it on the news was you guys in and near Glasgow, I did post that on my journal and wenchpixie said everyone was fine.

I didn't even bother with the news cause I knew it would annoy me, I went online and got the details there.

I dread work tomorrow, our security level never really went down since the previous year so it might be interesting tomorrow.

As I say just glad no innocent people were hurt this time.

The one reassuring thing at the moment is that the terrorists are so clueless. But yeah. Scotland seemed to be mostly exempt from the IRA campaigns, so quite a shock.

Car bombs are a rather scary prospect though, and it seems likely one will get through at some point, probably in London. Still way, way more likely to get killed crossing the road though, so not worth dwelling on overly.

But very unsettling feeling when something like that happens so close to home, even though they did manage to damage no-one but themselves.

It makes no sense to be targeting Scotland right now, if this is linked to the protests about the Iraq war, then with the SNP in charge at Holyrood and our First Minister being Alec Salmond who has been very vocally anti-Iraq war it just seems like they might push the Scottish Parliament in exactly the opposite direction.

I'm glad nothing happened to you. Nor from my facts, to any other innocent person, right?

I didn't know you drive past it daily - Glad you & yours are ok. We don't watch the news much I tend to pick up headlines off the BBC homepage on line.

The London thing doesn't surprise me - makes me nervous though as acrazywench is spending a lot of time up there right now.

I did wonder whether to be totally shallow and go and see if I can see SMG open the Harrods sale (yeah I know...) but I think I won't bother.

Glad that you're OK. It's a bit of a shock to the system to have it happening so close to home :(

Hey Mara! (: I'm glad that you are alright. I'm glad that your friends living and working near Glasgow Airport are alright. I had no idea you worked so near the Glasgow airport. When I heard the news I wondered and worried about you. I've been away from my computer most all weekend so this was the first I could comment to you. But I'm glad your alright. I'm also very thankful that no one in London was hurt. This all seems so interconnected. When I heard about the almost bombing in London I figured it was Al Quaeda's little welcoming present to Mr Brown. Guess they figured if they couldn't hit London they would try for another area of the UK. I'm thankful that they didn't succeed and I hope they don't. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your friends. I'm sure this was very frightening for all of you.
