Girly TMI
So there are times when I hate being a girl. usually one week out of every four. There's the mood swings, the cramps, the crabbitness, the backpain, the uncomfortableness, the bleuch feeling, the heat (I feel *really* warm during that time, god help me when I finally get hot flushes...). The fact that I have to spend at the very least a fiver every month on something that I can't really do without.

And then, as I'm in the chemist this morning, rolling my eyes at the prices, I noticed a new product. Tampax Compak Fresh.

Tampons with a light fragrance.

Huh?

Okay, maybe I could understand towels being fragranced but tampons?

I just...

No. Bad idea.

And let's leave aside the fact that I tend to react badly to fragranced soaps etc by coming out in painful rashes. Can you imagine what would happen if I reacted badly to a tampon?

Just...
No.

Yeah...

Get the feeling I may be a little PMSy right now?

Wench? Do you mind if I filter some ficlets for you to take a look at today? The ones I wrote at your place - I finally got them off my laptop and into a useable format...

ETA Oh! And you know what else really annoys me? LJ Comms which moderate the submissions and then reject submissions based on arbitrary rules. I had a fic approved on an SPN fic comm and then deleted straight away. I *still* don't know why, I'm 99.9999999997% sure it was within their guidelines but... no matter, it got cross posted to a bunch of other comms and picked up. But then yesterday in another fandom, I posted a fic and it was rejected because they don't accept NC-17 content. Fair enough, except nowhere on their userinfo does it say that. And when I edited it and took the NC-17 content out, it still got rejected because the admin thought it was still NC-17. Um. It wasn't after the edit. It was a hard R, but I've seen 15 rated films that revealed more than the fic did.

Fragranced... WTF? How is that healthy? And in what universe is it useful *confused face*. It's the tax that I begrudge paying, really. Humph. Anyway, Asda's own copies are the cheapest, and they're pretty much like the "real thing" too, worth stocking up if you're near an Asda.

And sure, go for your life. I may do similar if I finally get my arse in gear and write abouttwoboys at all. It's due in 3 days. I suck.

The concept of them just flumoxes me... what use are they going to be?! The only time one would get to experience the 'fragrance' would be taking them out of the box in the first place.

And yeah, it can't really be healthy either...

Boots own brand towels were surprisingly cheap (given that it was Boots!) 99p almost made up for the £2.70 on tampons (they didn't have their own brand). Bang goes my 'less than a tenner' budget week!

Excellent. I'll post 'em up in the next hour or so.

*glares*

Get writing you!

Fragranced... urrgghh...

As for the money issue - my monthly costs have gone down since I invested in a mooncup... Not everyone's cup of tea - but it pays for itself in less than 6 months and it gives you a good feeling of doing something to help the environment.....
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on February 11th, 2008 12:01 pm (UTC)
I looked into the idea of a mooncup, but the thought of changing it out in a public bathroom (or even the staff one here) kinda put me off the idea. It's definitely something I'm introgued by, maybe it's time to take another look into it.

My trick is one of those spray bottles from Boots that they sell for using on your Travels - the pressure from the spray is high enough to give it a good clean without having to leave the cubicle.

Ooo - now that is a good idea.

I have the site open in another tab right now to read more about it at lunch. It's a bit of an expensive outlay, but as you say it cuts down the costs later so...

Maybe.

Fragrant tampons. Seriously, all I can think of now is an advert with flowers sprouting from a vagina and in the background some voice saying, "Now you'll always smell fresh."

*facepalm*

My brain scares me sometimes.
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on February 11th, 2008 12:56 pm (UTC)
*snorts*

The really scary thing? I can see that advert in my mind's eye too...

Shiny Jason could make all things better!

Absolutely!

(I swear I will get around to making more icons soon, right now I'm thinking about completely restructuring what icons I have and that seems like as good an excuse as any to me!)

I'm on my way out the door right now, but had to say: that's just wrong. Fragranced?!

Also, if you're having a bad day, look what I just found, don't know whether you've seen it: http://winter-baby.livejournal.com/233412.html

*g*

I know, fragranced tampons? Just... no. A world of no.

LOL! Someone did a Psycho Beach Party picspam?! That's beyond awesome!
[identity profile] hopeless-cynic.livejournal.com on February 11th, 2008 04:48 pm (UTC)
It's just wrong. And it sounds very unhygienic, no matter how they advertise it, I'd never use them.

It's AWESOME! I'm so glad I clicked the link, I was all "oooo, pretty!" I really need to rewatch that soon, might forget everything I haven't watched yet & try & watch Psycho Beach Party again before anything else lol.

Ahhh, the joy of scented tampons. A show I worked on a few years ago had an entire rant about those. Started off with a monologue from a immigrant dirt farmer about how life on the plains is so very difficult, how hard it is to find ways to make ends meet and keep the children and cow fed when her husband was dead, yadda yadda -- but she feels better because her scented tampons keep her feeling fresh!

Yeeeeeeeah. All I know is that with the scented or colored kinds, you're, like, 50,000 times more likely to end up with TSS, and everyone I know who's ever used one ended up ill.

*snorts*

I'd never seen these before, wonder why they've been slow to make it to the market in the UK? Ah well, I don't imagine they'll exactly corner the market since everyone seems to have the same "WTF?" reaction to them!
the sharpest crayon in the chandelier[personal profile] bellatemple on February 11th, 2008 03:31 pm (UTC)
Well, we crazy Americans are well known for our absurd products, especially in the area of personal hygiene. I suspect it's because all you over there are far more practical than we are.

I mean, they still SELL the damned things here, and as far as I know, we were all taught in health class in fifth grade (around the age of nine or ten) that the things were horrible for you. . . .
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on February 11th, 2008 03:32 pm (UTC)
They just seem like such an unhygienic thing in the first place, and if they've proven increased rates of TSS I'm more than a little surprised to see them on the market still.

Ah the wonders of modern capitalism...
the sharpest crayon in the chandelier[personal profile] bellatemple on February 11th, 2008 03:35 pm (UTC)
Ye-ep. I don't know if it's been proven, and I haven't heard of any law suits against tampon companies for making them, but it's common knowledge that the more . . . treated the tampon, the more likely TSS becomes. I mean, you're sticking chemicals down there. That just ain't right.

OH! On a completely different subject (really!) ICON!!

Nice! I did a couple versions of that shot, myself:

I actually went in and dewatermarked it to get that last one. Which wasn't nearly as much of an adventure as dewatermarking this one:

Which involved much more attention to Jared's crotch then I normally would pay for an icon. Also, getting the Pussycat Dolls off a striped shirt? Took forever.
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on February 11th, 2008 03:53 pm (UTC)
Ooo! Nice!!

Which involved much more attention to Jared's crotch then I normally would pay for an icon - and here I was thinking you were a Dean Girl through and through... *g*

(Pussycat Dolls need to be killed slowly and painfully...)
the sharpest crayon in the chandelier[personal profile] bellatemple on February 11th, 2008 03:55 pm (UTC)
Heeeeee. Oh, I am. But I'm a Dean girl who spends a lot of time with a Sam girl, and thus, attention is occasionally drawn in the direction of Jared's crotch. . . .

I understand your frustration with communities like that. You wouldn't believe what happened to me on my birthday...being rejected (and villified) for content your fic doesn't even contain and treated like the lowest piece of vermin ever to walk the Earth? Yeah, that's special. Sorry you got shafted, too.
