I'm not up on the comic books, but don't that stop you writing about them!

"Happy anniversary!" Willow said, as she joined her friends on the bench that had become their spot over the last year.

Jesse gave her a skeptical look, one of the ones that he thought made him look cool but really only hid his intelligence. Come to think of it, at Sunnydale High maybe those were one and the same.

Xander knew what she meant, though. "Ten years since the fateful day," he said, grinning. "They'll write about it in the history books."

"Ten years ago we were five," Jesse said. "How do you know what-- wait, the day we all met? Kindergarten?" Willow could tell he was about to mock her for thinking of it, but she really didn't want to hear another round of Cool vs. Uncool.

"Hard to believe it's been ten years, huh?" she asked quickly, to head him off.

"Hey, I can't even believe we're finally sophomores," Xander said. He nodded at a group of freshmen hurrying down the hall, wearing brand-new backpacks. "Were we ever that small?"

"Sophomore year's gonna be great," Jesse announced, almost as if he could make it happen by sounding super decisive. Willow followed his eyes across the courtyard and saw Cordelia Chase, fluffing her hair in a crowd of girls in stylish new clothes.

Willow looked away from Cordelia at the rest of the kids milling around the familiar courtyard. Aloof seniors, confident juniors, laughing sophomores and nervous freshmen. It all looked depressingly familiar, and for once she just hoped for a change. "I just hope this year is different," she said.

It's got Xander and Willow and it's AU-future fic with an HP-crossover. X/W aren't in a relationship, but they live together and I think I did a pretty good shot at keeping them in character.
