Hey! I'm a grown up!
woke up this morning and realised that I should probably try to do something about getting my life sorted out a little. Tried to balance my chequebook a little and discovered that by the time I've made all my direct debit payments in a month then I have £32.11 left over to pay for petrol and food....

*g*

So I cut up all but one of my credit cards and I actually feel a whole lot better about that now. It's all sitting on my desk right now like pretty plastic confetti...

I know that sounds really random and that I might actually have lost my mind at some point over the weekend but I haven't, I'm fine, no really! I guess I just realised that I'm nearly 30, it's about time I actually did something that hinted at maybe being slightly grown-up and finances seemed to be the way. A week ago I would probably have buried my head in the sand over the fact that I can't afford to eat, but this week I'm fine with it. I know where the problems are and I can do stuff about it. Look at me, I'm a grown up!

On top of that I'm getting back to writing again, I had a burst of input from my muse at the start of the week but then it just kind of wandered off again and I've not done much since then. Today, the coffee's on, the cd's playing, the house is more or less tidy and things are back on track again. Okay, so it's a really twisted and bendy track and my train of thought keeps jumping it but hey, it's me! Would you really expect a straight-froward hitch-free ride? *g*

Just wonderin'
Which story is it, is it one of the one's that hasn't updated for a while, or is it one of the newer one's?

Re: Just wonderin'
both actually - cryptic much?

*g*

Actively open on my screen at the moment is WaDaDM (part 2) *and* a little story called Destiny... (don't get too excited about that though, it's nowhere near ready for posting yet!)

Re: Just wonderin'
Oooh... was kinda hopin' for a TDATOTW, but if your muse ain't wanting that, it can't be helped, right.

It's good with the getting all organised and grown up though. I've alway's tried to be careful with money, (a) because we never had that much when I was younger and I had to work for pretty much everything, and (b) because I had a very hairy period during one summer break while at Uni when I realised I'd gone over both my overdrafts and didn't have any money to buy anything with. But worked the overdrafts off when I started work, and we're in a pretty good state now, even with the £250 a month going out into the wedding fund! We really need to set a date for that.

Re: Just wonderin'
TDATOTW is more of a Thursday/Friday fic whereas WaDaDM is most definitely a Sunday fic. I know that sounds really bizarre but lemme explain a bit - Sunday is the one day in the week that is mine. No one has any say on anything I do on a Sunday and I have little rituals. I make really good coffee, listen to jazz, read certain fics or books and just chill. If the weather's good I'll take the dog to the beach and if it's not I'll take him to the park. And I write.

I guess it's my 'grown-up' day and WaDaDM feels like a grown-up fic to me, these guys know who they are now and they're in control of their lives to a certain extent. Things is very definitely about losing control and not knowing why they're doing stuff - a teenage or early 20s fic in my head - which is usually where my head's at on a Thursday.

Plus, I can't find the CD the title comes from at the moment so... *g*

Re: Just wonderin'
You could't have named two fics to give more joy to my heart! *g*

Finances: Concentrate on clearing the CC debts with the highest interest rates. Check the details on any sort of 'consolidating loan' you might be offered. They're often just as high APR as the debts you're paying off, and may have no-early-repayment clauses. (Though you own a house so that helps - could get a secured loan, which is a much lower APR). Don't try to save or start pensions or stuff while you still have credit card debts and the like - you'll be paying more interest out than you're getting in. Put the money into debt clearance. (Probably all fairly obvious).

But cutting up the CC's is a darned good start!

Re: Just wonderin'
It was really cathartic tearing up the cards actually - I'd recommend it to anyone! *g*

I do actually have a pension on the go at the moment but it's one that my work contributes to and the money I pay comes off my wages before I see it so I'm okay with that. The house I actually own half of it outright - my mum left it to me and my sister and I just bought out her half of it. I'm thinking of taking a mortgage break on the part I am paying for and using that money towards the CC bills but I'm going to sit down and look at the practicalities of that. One of the CC companies does flexible loans at a pretty good rate as well so I may look into that but I'd rather not take out a loan unless I absolutely have to.

I'm looking at where I spend money and seeing names like dvd.co.uk and cd-wow.com far too often on statements. Plus a month ago I spent over £40 on a katana and stand just because. So no more impulse buys for me at the moment, no more conventions after Fusion this year and no more credit cards... *g*

Difference question
Just a quick question for the two of you - one person who's read this made the connection with the cave instantly, did anyone else? And do you *really* want to know what happened in the next part or should I spin it out a little?

Not that I'm a tease or anything... *g*

Re: Difference question
Just re-read it and I think I want to know what's happened to Xander, he's a sweetie and I want to know what he's been up to *pout*

Re: Difference question
he's a sweetie and you wonder why you got Tara on the first go at the character quiz when you're quoting her directly? (TARA: No, Xander's a sweetie.)

Re: Difference question
I didn't make any connection. Slow here. Obviously have to know at some point, but happy to have it spun out for a while!

Re: Difference question
It was Matt who made the connection - but then again he thought it was a Spuffy story for the whole first part so who trusts what he thinks? *g*

First draft of the second part's done but for the saccharine now - might even post it tonight.

Congrats on the challenge win btw!
