Strength
So my Aunt Sandra is seriously ill. She was diagnosed with cancer about ten years ago but has been in remission for quite awhile. Just before Christmas she got a bad chest infection that wouldn't shift and she finally was told the bad news - the cancer is back.

She's been fighting it since then and seemed to be responding well to the treatments, but yesterday we were told she was taken into a hospice and the doctors are being optimistic when they say she has two weeks.

Two of the strongest people I know are my dad and my Aunt Sandra. My dad died from cancer when I was 19 after he fought it all the way, and now Sandra is facing the same fight. She is remarkably positive and I know she will not give up. Her strength in the face of this is humbling and just makes me grateful for every moment I have with her.

Real strength isn't about muscles or being able to tow a twelve tonne truck, it's about courage. Having the courage to remain positive in the face of adversity. My dad had that courage and I know Sandra does as well.

Blessed Be

Oh Sho, I'm so sorry. *many hugs*

May all forces of goodness and love enfold her, and you and all your family.

Thank you Sam, we're in an odd state right now. Because she's been ill for so long we've gotten used to it and now it's escalated to this stage we're not quite sure how to take it. I'm doing everything as normal, laughing with people at work about stuff, and then suddenly I come crashing down again. Really strange.

I'm taking the view that Sandra wouldn't want to know that her being so ill is affecting us adversely so I'm keeping my spirits up, trying to help the rest of the family keep their's up and I'm just being *me*, it's all I can think of to do.

Sho... now I feel so bad about saying I hope your aunt get's well.

Just remember that what you're doing, trying to keep going and keeping everyone else upbeat means that you're showing the same courage that your dad did and that your aunt does, and that if you ever want to talk, then your friends will be here.

All of you are in my thoughts.

Jackie *hugs*

Thanks Jackie, that means a lot.

Unfortunately, Sandra passed away late this afternoon, she remained positive right to the end.

Same here Sho. You and your family are in my thoughts. And I hope I speak for more than myself when I say that we're here for you.

I am so sorry to hear of this!
All my good thoughts are with you and your family right now! I lost my grandfather and stepfather to cancer and I know what an insidious and awful thing it can be! But my Aunt Kathy beat it,and I hope that your Aunt Sandra does just as well as she has despite the dire predictions! But either way, please know that people(like me) care a great deal! Be strong! I'll be thinking of you during this time!
