Essay's done! and yes, it was posted on schedule for once! Yay me! Been kinda caught up doing random stuff lately so I've not really been writing which is annoying me now, the only thing I did write is something that I seriously doubt will ever see the light of day without some serious re-working going on and even then I still probably won't post it. UK Style played back-to-back episodes of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition all weekend. Sunday morning? I wrote a little ficlet thing bringing the team to Sunnydale...

Today's pretty much the same as yesterday workwise. I've now finished everything I needed to do and there's no sign of any more work coming my way for the forseeable future. I was on the verge of calling in sick this morning, I really am feeling like crap. The antibiotics do seem to working though - the underlying chest infection seems to be going - or at least, the cough does - so hopefully everything else will go soon as well. Theoretically I guess after this week I should be the healthiest I've been in a long time. Should make up for me feeling like death warmed up right now.

Because I swithered over whether to phone in or not, I was late leaving the house, meaning I didn't eat breakfast, didn't bring breakfast with me, and forgot to lift my desk drawer keys. I'm now drinking my first coffee of the day out of a plastic throwaway water cup and listening to my stomach growling  as I try to figure out something else to do for the rest of the day.

On a random note, my passport ran out in 2001 and I never got round to renewing it after that so right now I can't actually leave the country. It's not bothered me too much, I've not had the time or the inclination to go anywhere in that time, right now though. I think I need a holiday. A proper, honest to goodness, holiday. I have 11 days annual leave left to take before October but at least two of those are earmarked for Prime in September ([livejournal.com profile] smileawhile - while I remember, have you heard anything yet?) So I'm going to renew my passport and take an actual holdiay. Any suggestions for where I should go?

ETA I *knew* there was something else I had to say - White Knight Awards voting closes on Friday and there are a lot of categories which are either tied at the moment or are one tiny vote away from being tied. If you haven't voted yet - please do it!

You've mentioned Egypt before, maybe that would be an idea.

only problem with that is that when I do go to Egypt I want to do it all - I don't think I have the time to do the place justice in a week to ten days.

How about Germany?
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on June 23rd, 2005 03:59 am (UTC)
anywhere specifically?

(problem with me is that I travelled so much through a lot of Europe when I was younger that I've been to most of the countries - Germany I travelled down the Rhein and Mosel and spent a bit of time in the Schwarzwald - which was gorgeous (and strangelt like Scotland for some reason!)

The Berlin area. Never been there myself (The borders were only just coming down the last time I was in Germany and Berlin was still very difficult to get to from the West).

I personally would suggest Munich and the Bavarian alps. It's gorgeous scenery and Neuschwanstein is gorgeous. But that's probably 'cause it's the only place in Germany I've been.

Or would Athens be an idea - lots of history round there.

I'm glad you got the essay done and that you're starting to feel better :)
I'm going to be no help on the holiday, I've never been a big traveller.

Hi,
Nope not heard a thing. I think another phonecall is on the cards. This is getting to be a weekly thing now grrrrr. Perhaps eventually he will get fed up with my constant calling and sort it out.

Italy? So chock full of art and ancient history and stuff. Venice, Florence, Rome... aaah!
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on June 23rd, 2005 06:20 am (UTC)
Venice... never got the attraction. Been there quite a few times (we used to holiday a lot in Yugoslavia and it was literally within spitting distance most of the time.

Florence on the other hand... now there's a city I've always wanted to see!

Don't like Venice? No taste! What's not to like? (Unless you go in the middle of the tourist season or when it's flooded, which between them is most of the time....)

But Florence, oh, that is such a cool place in so many ways. And if you want somewhere to sit and chill, and draw or write? The Piazza della Signori, and specifically the nice shady balcony with all the statues whose name I forget... perfect.

it was usually flooding whenever we were there, adn the smell... gah! I think that's my overriding memory of Venice, the awful smell.

I'm *this* close to being sold on Florence though, sounds ideal and I have always wanted to see it...
