Gah!
Why do I do it? I know my sister doesn't give a crap about my life and the only reason she feigns interest is when she wants to borrow money from me. So why did I phone her for advice on the horrible noise my car's started making over the last couple of days? Oh yeah, because I figured she might actually be able to give me some advice or that I could get some of the money back that she owes me so that I can get it fixed. No go on both respects.

And then she asked me how the premiere had gone and almost as soon as I started telling her I suddenly found myself talking to my nephew. My three year old nephew. It's a favourite trick of hers when she doesn't want to talk about something is to pass the phone to him.

If she didn't want to know about it why the hell did she ask me and why the hell did I phone her in the first place? I'm tired, I've not slept properly this week at all and I should have known better.

Gah!

Anyone have any advice on my car by the way? It's making a god-awful sound especially in first-through-third gear, sounds like a souped-up boy-racer car. I figure there's maybe a hole in the exhaust but there's also a severe lack of any real power - my 0-60 is waaaay down now - and my power steering seems a little screwy as well. That's not likely to be connected to the exhaust - is it? Have I got at least two things that need to be fixed in a potentially horribly expensive way?

*calm blue ocean* ('cause thinking of leaves blowing in the wind conjours up a whole new meaning now!)

(randomly - can I just say this new road safety ad is incredible? Bunch of teenagers walking on the pavement just having fun, it's shot on a camera phone and they're just being kids. One of them walks out to cross the road and a car slams into him. It literally took my breath away when I saw it first time.)

I just find it infuriating that I still let her get to me this way - I know what she's like and yet I still set myself up for it.

One of these days I'll get the nearly 400 quid she owes me... maybe when hell freezes over. Still, at least I've learned never to loan money to family now!

I hope you DO get that money repaid someday!

Advice would be to start the engine, thn get out of the car to try and figure out where the noise is coming from (ie is it coming from the engine or not). Can't see how that's connected to the loss of power (unless the noise is coming from the engine). If you know anything about cars, take it to a garage. If not, take it to someone you know who knows about cars (and you trust) before you take it to a garage.

Can you tell I don't trust garages?

I tried that really quickly when I picked up the passengers on the road to Edinburgh. There's a dull rattle when it's in neutral but it's really loud when the car's in gear. It's pretty much constant as long as my foot;s on the gas (too tired to spell the actual name for the pedal so I'll use the americanism) Just seems really odd that if it is two different things they both happened at the same time.

Maybe my car just doesn't like Edinburgh. :)

Hey. I'm halfway between Edinburgh and Glasgow, so this East coast/West coast rivalry thing you're trying to stir up ain't workin'. (And remember I live closer to Glasgow than you do)

Does sound as though there's a hole in the exhaust (or with you saying there's a rattling in Nuetral possibly one of the Brackets holding the exhaust to the bottom of the car is loose and the exhaust is rattling) but I'm no expert.

Okay I know nothing about cars... Does the sound increase as you accelerate? Maybe it's the transmission since you are losing power?

Or maybe I should shut up because again... know nothing about cars.

Siblings I know plenty about. Talking to mine is like chewing sand. It's irritating as hell and leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

My condolences.
