INAP news and efiction techie question  
The database is now connected **hugs tech support at DataFlame** and all the old stories are there and connecting - or at least the four or five I checked are!

But.

Uploading isn't working right now - hence my techie question. Everything but the story text uploads in my tests, and since I just copied all the files over to the new server I didn't run through the standard efiction installation process. At the moment I have the stories set to store on the server rather than in the database but do I need to change the CHMOD on the stories folder? It's set to 755 right now but should it be set to something else? Edit Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] jgracio's advice the settings on the folder are now at 777 but it's still not uploading properly - any hints anyone?

I've posted the question to the efiction forum as well in case I'm making zero sense here...

I don't really speak UNIX or know anything about what webserver you're using (would bet on Apache) but 755 will only allow the owner to write on the directory. Are the files being written using the owner account or some other account?

I've changed it to global access (777) but it's still not working right. Grrr. I'm sure it's just me missing something obvious in the set up and it'll be sorted soon - I hope!

And BTW, your mood icons are behaving strangely on the flists. They're okay on your own livejournal, but on the flists they're image not found placeholders most of the time. Going to your livejournal caches the images, a refresh returns the error, at least that's the behaviour I've seen.

Thanks! It's looking like I may have to leave the site as read-only for the weekend I'm afraid - I really need to go pack for the convention and go buy Jaffa Cakes. (Old convention tradition, it's not a con without Jaffa Cakes!) Oh, and a map of how to get there wouldn't be a bad idea...

The mood icons - I can fix that. In fact it should hopefully be fixed now. Had the .htaccess file set to allow my own LJ to hotlink to the images but not anyone else - so as soon as you browse away from my journal it won't load the image. Should be okay now though! (Thanks for letting me know!)

Mood icons are okay now. :)

And Jaffa cakes? Don't know what those are, but I had a picture of cakes with Egyptian symbols on their foreheads. :)

Thanks. And seeing them I realized I've already had Jaffa cakes (or are they biscuits :) I just didn't call them that.

Now you've made me hungry for some sugary goodness. Darn.

And now I realize the dark side to your encyclopedic knowledge of Buffy. How can you live with all Season 6 and 7 trivia? I actively push most of it out of my mind... :)

Ah the is a Jaffa Cake a cake or a biscuit debate.
They're definitely a cake as they go hard when left out as cakes do, biscuits go soft in the air!

Hey Mara,

just a heads-up for when you get back from the convention, I just tried to access the third chapter of a story, posted recently by Francis Eugene, called Once Again. I just get the beginning and end of the page, nothing in between. No letters at all. If I go to the "print" icon, I get the following page: http://parrot.moments-lost.co.uk/viewstory.php?action=printable&sid=2870

Hope you can figure out what's going on. In the meantime, Have FUN at the Convention!!!!!

Aha - thanks for letting me know! That chapter shouldn't have been able to be uploaded. The site's still in read only mode for the moment - I have a possible fix for it but I've not been able to implement it yet (hopefully it'll be done tonight!). Anything that's been uploaded since the 7th of this month hasn't been stored anywhere, so although it looks as if it's been added it really hasn't. I'll get in touch with everyone who's tried to upload anything since that date as soon as I get the problems sorted out.

And thanks! The convention was a lot of fun!
