I just had to make this mod post at the i_need_a_parrot comm.

Part of me is in two minds as to the whole thing. I loathe doing plagiarism investigations because me and confrontation don't go together all that well. I was plagiarised once, a whole passage was lifted out of What a Difference a Day Makes by one of the most... notorious, shall we say, plagiarists in the Xander fandom. (What made it worse was that this person had given the chapter a positive review on FF.net when I still posted there so this person didn't even plausible deniability when uncovered - the one passage of mine was but a drop in the ocean in that particular instance though).

Back to the point though, retelling a film/song/book/myth/whatever by replacing the characters with fandom ones? Is it plagiarism? I've said no (when the source is properly credited as it was in the instance in question) and I'm aware that in the SPN fandom there was actually a challenge last year (may well be running this year as well, I dunno, it's RPS so it's not my thing) in which 'classic' films were to be rewritten featuring J2. (I beta'd one, that's how I know about it - the comm had 'reel' in the name, but that's all I remember right now)

I dunno. Personally these are not my thing at all. Yeah, sure, using a film/myth as a kicking off point - absolutely. But rewriting it in it's entireity? Why? I just...*

I feel like the bad guy here, no matter what I do.

(Sho needs a reminder that she runs the sites because she enjoys it...)

BTW - I never knew the human body could turn such interesting colours. There's a whole damn spectrum right there on my hand.

* ETA on the other hand (and after another pain pill has kicked in) isn't it more of a challenge to a writer to focus so intensely on a story? Me, when I'm writing, I often wonder at the twists and turns the characters take me. I don't think I could be disciplined enough to follow a plot laid out by another writer. Hell, moscow_watcher should probably know that Crimson Regret was the one story I started with a definite end in site and yet when I started writing it the characters didn't like that ending and as such the story has faltered. It will finish when I acknowledge it and get back to writing it. (straww poll: original concept ending or character influenced ending? Either can be made to work!)

Dude, Saturday morning and I've been up for four hours already. Okay, so I didn't actually get to sleep 'till about 3 this morning, but as they say "Sleepiness is weakness of character". Thank you Wash.

Emails are now all sent - yay! And yes, I screwed up and put the wrong damn URL in some of the WKA notifications - sorry about that if you're one of those who got both that and the "I'm an idiot" email that followed it ten minutes later. *shakes head* I am an idiot sometimes!

Right, done and dusted. I need to wait for replies from two one authors who have has two fics in a single category and then voting can be set up to start on Monday the 8th for the WKA. Yay!

Judging is more or less sorted on the S&B Awards, although I have to spend the rest of my time online here downloading fics to my pen drive so that I can judge them (I'm covering all categories but focusing on the longer ones - didn't think it was fair to take advantage of the generosity of my fellow judges too badly) And I also need to decide on criteria for judging authors. That one's not so easy - quantity over quality? nah, of course not, but on the other hand... too many thoughts. Brain hurty.

Right, now I'm off to upload some more things to Fandom's Bitch (most of my fic is up there now - except some of the longer WIPs (Crimson Regret, WaDaDM) - I have over 100 fics. I didn't know I'd written that much. Dude!) and then start downloading fics to judge.

Sorry I've been spammy the last couple of days, but the weekend'll make up for that with me not around.

INaP, Effects..., Hand, Spirit, Key, Daughters of Sineya users - the script needs to be updated. They're all still working, and it's not a critical update. I can't make the upload from work because the upload is bigger than the webFTP programme allows and I can't make it from home because I have no net access. I... don't know when it'll be done, hopefully really soon. In the meantime, if you notice anything odd about the sites, please let me/each other know. (Those of you with INaP mod priviledges have my complete approval to delete and ban the accounts of spammers - there's been a few lately, they tend to have random letter/number usernames and their profile is full of links to spam sites.)

I'm also not going to be around so much online during the day, because this has become a bit of a crutch for me to vent and it's not healthy. For me or you. I'll still be here, I'll still be posting, but I won't be so... here.

I managed to work out a possible fix for the missing sites and implented it all on my own - and it worked! (And yes, with my aversion to all things database related, this is a big deal. I was coding directly into the MySQL database at one point! (yeah, coding's not the right term, that's how much I avoid doing it...)) So pointless nostalgic and Spirit of the Heart (not officially launched yet) are back!

It now seems that I cannot ever be online at the same time as any of my friends. Woe. Sorry wenchpixie - I got your text at 5.30 this morning, I take it you weren't online at that point... and hopeless_cynic - I really want to go ahead with our project, can you email me today/tonight because I don't know when I'll next be on messenger.

I also *really* have to finish up my Sweet Charity things before July. Officially I have until the end of July to do them, but I feel like they've been sitting there unfinished for way too long. And I have prompts to write for fic_variations here on LJ (2 sets), prompts to write for spn_100 over on IJ (come join! aaronlisa's drabble challenge for Supernatural - you know you want to!) and 100 John icons for sn_100 on LJ. Plus the other graphics I still have to do for friends (wenchpixie, aditu_az, fresleyforever, emeraldswan are the ones I know I have to do - I have a horrible feeling I'm forgetting someone? Help?). Problem is my insomnia seems to have been cured and I'm now sleeping pretty much from when I get in until I leave for work. So although I have all this stuff to do, I just can't seem to find the time to do any of it. (Plus, work is not exactly fun at the moment because it never is, but it is time consuming so I can't even write in the downtime...)
