There's nothing quite like a mindless repetitive task to really get your nerves on edge. Excel sucks and is currently giving me a headache and I'm only at Acta in a very long alphabetic list ending with Yearbook of... Getting that far has taking me all morning plus an hour yesterday afternoon. This data should not be on a spreadsheet, it should be on a database. This is going to take me months to compile and I know it's just going to sit on the server for seven years before it's deleted and in the meantime (and this is the important part) No One Will Look At It.

People keep talking and I know it's 'cause I'm headachey but the volume seems to be insanely high, there's an odd cheesy smell near my desk and it turns out there was a flood last night and there's probably goodness knows what crap coming through the air con vent right over my head. I'm just having a wonderful week this week aren't I?

So who had bets on "3 hours" in the "how long the positivity kick lasts" stakes?

ETA Heh! I've moved desks to get away from the smell and the computer I'm now at is one of those with the really annoyingly noisy keybards. Still - at least there's no damp cheese smell now!

Can't you import it into Access, kick it's ass with SQL and then export to Excel? It's what I'd do...

Y'know, that's not a bad plan. I may give it a go and see if it works out! Cheers!

Mmmmm Sean Maher....

I know there are other lovely people going to be there too, but I'm an eye candyaholic

I'm not sure if Sean is actually a laminee at the moment, he may be a reserve - I'll have to check;) Nathan, on the other hand, is well and truly laminated:D

Looks like I may end up doing the hair cut & colour the weekend before the event - let's hope Sho's hair didn't set a precedent last time otherwise I'm stuffed!

I already have far too many things for the lovely people to sign (particularly Sean since I haven't seen him before) and am having a panic about the decision making that's going to be needed!

(My 'issues' today aren't with Excel, but are Excel related so sharing:) Why oh why, when giving us this new version of windows, did Mr Gates and his team decide that it would be funny if from now excel charts psated into word should be treated as diagrams when formatted rather than excel charts? Thought I had a breakthrough last week and managed to get the link back between excel and word so that I could do the finishing off formatting of charts in word (like it used to be in the good old days). Just went and had a look at a document I saved last week which looked perfect when it was saved - and printed. In the week I haven't looked at it it has re-formatted itself! The bars of the chart are now all the same block colour instead of three different patterns, the y axis label has plonked itself on top of the chart, and now if I click to format I just get format picture options whereas last week I was getting the lovely old link back to the original Excel chart. Most grumpy inducing:()

Sean's definite laminate list material for me - but then you remember the size of my laminate list don't you? *g*

And the Excel related problems? It's a conspiracy that's what it is!

Ah yes, something like 26 as opposed to the traditional 5?!*bg* Well in that case, I'm sure I can squeeze him in:)
[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com on November 3rd, 2005 07:19 am (UTC)
I think we got it narrowed down to 15 or 16 in the end, but yeah... definitely more than the traditional figure anyway...

*g*

What can I say? I like having the choice!

You poor thing! That task sounds hideously onerous!
