The cold that's been threatening since Asylum has kicked in, I spent all day yesterday going from bed to the throw-covered couch to bed again. It was a really pretty day yesterday and I was supposed to be spending some time with the kids in their garden - which I love doing. When else can a *mumblemumble* year old get to play swing ball without a) being drunk; or, b) looking like an idiot?

But alas, I was left snuffling and coughing and generally feeling like death warmed up.

Babysat for them on Saturday though - eventually finding out at 5 that I was needed at 6 (and could I stop and buy some things for dinner on my way up the road...). My sister's an hilarious drunk. She doesn't go out a lot anymore, and she's not been drunk for years. She can't handle her drink any more. It's hilarious. Oh, and apparently my brother in law doesn't understand how I could have staffed at the convention because he just doesn't see me as anything other than Sis' quiet little sister. And that's my problem how? (That's not completely true actually, he sees me as having an impressive cleavage as well - to the extent where I don't wear v-necks when I go to their house any more.)

I couldn't get online on Saturday at all so I've had to default on my [livejournal.com profile] spring_with_xan day, which sucks. Thanks though for your prompts on Friday - I'll be having a go at them soon in an attempt to make up for it!

Right, I'm aware right now that I'm snappy and irritable and finding the little things annoying so I'm going to go have a cup of tea and actually do some work.

eta work rant not normal curcumstances my arse )

Also? Coriander tastes like soap. Marks & Sparks? If you put it in a chicken salad I will be able to taste it, so why don't you put it on the damn label so I don't buy it? (Coriander is silantro, btw, I'm spelling that phonetically 'cause I've never seen it written down, what with living on the civilised side of the Atlantic... *g* - Cilantro - thanks [livejournal.com profile] geminilove_ca!)

The dust sheets are after me!!!

The painters, who have so far caused one fire drill already today, are heading in my direction. I may be about to be penned in... I have nowhere I can go, no empty desks for me to move to temporarily. Boy this is going to be fun.

The painters are in the office right now, I've been in work for just over an hour and they've already had two tea-breaks but that's beside the point, we were told we could continue working in here because the paint is odourless. My arse.

I'm going to have a headache for the rest of the week now. Joy.

Did a lot of catching up on fic writing on Friday night, but it's all on my laptop which isn't networked anywhere at Wench's place so it'll be next weekend at the earliest before any of it gets posted I think. Talking it over really helped me get over this whole "Fics need to be longer!! Show and tell!!" thing that I had going. Now I'm happy to post the ficlets so long as they're complete. If they're 400 words, then that's fine, if they're 3000 words then that's fine too.

I'm off now to work out some of Sibeal's back story now, which has nothing to do with anything and definitely is not work related, but it's fun!

OH! SPN season 3 started back on ITV2 last night which meant the return of the [livejournal.com profile] scsposse commentary spamming - Demonic Cold Sores FTW!! And how long would it actually take to burn the evil out of a possessed body? I'm thinking 25 minutes to the pound on a barbeque-style pit?

*grins*

I'll be in London tomorrow - work thing unfortunately, and I don't think I'll have a whole lot of time - but if anyone happens to be around Kings College tomorrow around 5pm I'd love to say hey! (I need to be back in Heathrow for a 7.20 flight though so it really will be just a hey)

Hugely busy at work, incredibly busy at home, so tired it's not even remotely funny - so I'm not blanking you or ill or anything (although I do have a cold. Thank you George.) I'm just rushed off my feet for now.

*hugs you all*

I started to feel almost human again by around three o'clock this afternoon (and I got to leave at 4 so it's all good...)

Got pissed off at people at work, ended up at second tea break I was the only person in the office actually working, which meant I had to get up and answer the queries at the desk twice. Not a problem normally, but today it was taking me ten minutes to walk the distance between my desk and the printer so getting up and answering questions? Not something I was keen to do.

Plus, I had to take a DDS (Document Delivery Service) payment by cheque - never done that, it was under five quid so I had to ask the DDS boss if there was a lower limit on cheques, she was on break and got all pissed off at me interrupting her, then she got pissed off when I tried to ring it through the till because it's a new till and isn't working. Yes, I saw the email from Monday saying the till wasn't operational but it would be within the day. Today's Thursday, by that email it should have been running for two days. It's really not my fault you didn't tell me it wasn't working yet.

And then, at exactly 15:46 (I emailed [livejournal.com profile] monkey_matt about it, that's how I know the time so accurately) the *other* person who should have been around to cover that tea break wandered in with a book in his hand and sat down. Of course there were no more queries from that point on but... (second break in twenty minutes from half three to ten to four, he came back with less than five minutes to spare).

....anyways....

I'm actually starting to feel better, I think the horse-strength antibiotics might be kicking in which is definitely a good thing because it means I can celebrate Winchester Day this weekend (which I learned today is a long weekend - who knew the library was closed on Monday? Not me...)

And STEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! soon it will be the week of absolute madness when I go from one end of the country to the other to see this man not once, but twice. *grins* Me? Obsessed? What made you say that?

Now I'm off to go curl up around a hot water bottle and watch some more Dark Angel episodes whilst trying to sleep...

I only just went back to viewing all the communities on my flist because I figured I'd have at least the summer hiatus to remain spoiler free... but I guess not. The spoilers are already cropping up over at [livejournal.com profile] supernatural_tv so I guess I'll go back to filtering again...

work related rambling )

Okay, I have my laptop with me and had been planning to make icons before I started at nine, but hey I ended up talking about the freshers' fair which no one but me and maybe a couple of others actually care about... *g*

[livejournal.com profile] aditu_az, those two personal icons you want - do you have an idea of the timestamp in the source? I know one of them is at the end, but the first one I don't remember where that was (just to save me a little time at lunch today).

Right, it's actually after nine now, I suppose I should pretend to do some work...

(the migraine came to nothing by the way - I drank gallons of water and ate to get my blood sugar sorted again, it helped a whole lot)

ETA randomly (since I haven't seen her in person for months), I just bumped into Annette, the new FF organiser. I was talking to her but not giving her my plans yet, seems like *a* committee somewhere has already met and decided to go with the old theme. Including buying bananas. Seriously, M&Ms will be cheaper in the long run...

Nice to know you're so damn observant. The reason I was doubled up ten minutes ago is because I was fighting the impulse to throw up. The reason I switched the lights off and spent five minutes clutching my head with my eyes closed is because I have pre-migraine symptoms.

So shut the hell up.

Seriously, I can barely move but I will tear your tongue out of your head if you don't shut up very soon.

Sho

(apart from [livejournal.com profile] monkey_matt who emailed me to empathise)

(Two people walked right past me in the worst of it there and neither commented on the fact that my head was just above the desk and my knuckles were white. I could be dying here folks and you'd never know it...)

*sighs*

Steve!! On my phone!!

*it'll be over soon and I'll be bouncy again, soon as my head stops trying to explode*

So my inner (not-so-hidden) Rock Chick is coming to the fore again, aided by the fact that the new Manics single kinda rocks and even though Lostprophets are getting a little too entrenched in LA-LA land for my tastes, Start Something is still one of the best albums I've heard in a long time (Liberation Transmission is decent enough, but Start Something is awesome).

And Biffy Clyro are *this close* to making it big.

This pleases me greatly.

And for the first time in a very long time I actually feel like writing something, without worrying that everyone's going to hate it and ask me what the hell I was thinking when I thought it would be a good idea to put pen to paper. (Seriously, that's what goes on in my head, either that or the ever-popular "the fact that a couple of people liked it is a fluke, I'll never be able to write more/finish it/replicate the fluke so I should just give up now...") Wow, that was random. Yeah, I forgot my meds again this morning but on the plus side my roots aren't showing any more - I am properly blonde now. (and if the credit card that they swore has been sent out arrives today then I can get my hair cut properly in the morning).

I'm going to have to ask my sister to drive me to the airport I think, trains and buses and the like are just too much of a hassle for the time I need to be there for the flight. She mentioned at the weekend how I was going to get there, I think she was waiting for me to ask but I told her I had it sorted. Ooops. And now I have a decision to make, I can fit everything I'm taking into an overnight bag if I don't take stuff like writing notepads  (and my sketchpad) and I limit the stuff I'm taking to get signed, but... is it worth the time saved not waiting at luggage claim if I don't have everything I want to have? So... suitcase or not? You decide...

Last day at work before taking off for Asylum, and the announcement on the forums yesterday that Jensen had arrived and was at his hotel kinda kick-started the squee. Just when the small mammals in the ten mile radius had gotten their hearing back as well... How the hell am I going to be getting through the rest of today? It's going to be so dull in this place, and I can't even spam people 'cause my network connections being screwy right now (probably 'cause I exceeded my download limits by doing both the plethora of journal usage stats and catching up on the newest additions to the AVA nominees list...) so limited email, no messenger systems... and I should probably get everything cleared out of my intrays...

(and WTF is this? I'm listening to the last.fm 'Biffy Clyro Similar Artists' station and this is not Snow Patrol... damn, so it is! It's Wow (Eddy TM Losers RMX) Whoddathunk you could actually make a trance track out of Snow Patrol? Huh...)

so there are too many supervisors in this office. At the current count, there are eight people in this room and four of them are supervisors... Anyway, the way it works is:

L used to do my job but got promoted to run the department. She's kinda an expert on e-journals and the things I do, so she's also my direct supervisor. J heads up the Inter Library Loan section and is the direct supervisor of Cr. G heads up the Serial Acquisitions section and is R's direct supervisor.

So - L's in charge
J's next with G a very close second to her
Cr, R and I are all on the same level but concentrating on different areas.

To ensure that no one supervisor has the sole responsibility for managing the till, we've just started doing it on a rota. Wanna see what that rota is?

Week 1 - Shona (me)
Week 2 - G/R
Week 3 - J
Week 4 - Cr

if Shona's not in during her rota week, G or R will do it and if G and R aren't in, Shona will do it. If J's not in, C'll do it and vice versa.

I don't have a problem doing the till, I don't mind taking my turn and covering for other people when they're not there, but how come G and R share a week and I have one all on my own?

Strikes me as a teensy bit unfair there....

(oh, and for the second day so far this week I forgot to take my meds. It's 'cause it's in a different box again, I know that sounds like a stupid reason, but it really is why.)
