Web favour

I've mentioned before that I code primarily with Firefox in mind, but I make sure things are cross-browser compliant as much as possible but... I got an email yesterday saying someone couldn't read the WKA site because of the font color against the background color. Now... it's black on off-white, hence my confusion. But... the page background is actually a dark brown and it's a <div> background which is off-white. I wasn't aware of that being a problem with other browsers (and indeed the problem I'm having with the nominees page is more about placement on the page - the colors are still fine). Does anyone use a browser like Opera or Safari or something else which may read my coding differently than Firefox, IE or Netscape? Does the WKA site display in a way you can read?

(And, yes, I'm aware I'm spelling color the US way, it's because I'm in web coding mode, sorry!)

(BTW, feeling less stressed this morning, I have options, okay so my options are either declaring my car off the road until I can afford the repairs or getting a hideously expensive loan/KwikFit store card in the short term, but still - options!)

ETA Heh! Check me out - all official sounding! Sorry - just read that back and it looks like I'm in work mode already! (sitting at my desk with punk in my headphones and my rock band hoodie on...)

Final edit Forget all about that question, I am abandoning div's in favour of tables because divs are evil. *g* Mid-changeover right now, should have the rest of the pages complete within a couple of hours.

Really final edit Site is re-coded, uploaded, checked and validated (both for XHTML and CSS - go me!). There shouldn't be any problems with it now - so go nominate! (Or y'know, let me know if there's any problems!)

Strangely enough, even though the W3C doesn't like people using tables as a visual design tool it seems using them solves many problems. From what I hear most of those problems come from IE's faulty behaviour. :)

And I'm glad you're feeling less stressed. I hope you manage to sort your financial issues. Also, something I wanted to comment a little while ago, eleven pounds in food? Just what do you eat? Don't you spend more than that on your sites?

Pages all coded and validated now. Yay! I get a shiny little button for my efforts... I have checked it now in Firefox and IE and it seems to be behaving itself better.

As for the food financing, I'm pretty much down to whatever's left in the freezer and bulk buying veg and cheap cuts of meat at the start of the month. I'm coping on it, chilli, chicken stews and broths are wonderful things! The sites are paid for annually in September and it has to be said if I'd known money would be so tight right now I may have let the subscription lapse. As it is, they're paid up now and I don't have to think about it for another few months.

This month is just one of those really bad months - the post-Christmas bills, my car repairs, MOT and road tax all needing to be paid for, my heating breaking down and my TV on the fritz just seem to be draining money I simply don't have right now. It's teaching me a lesson though - no more money for siblings, start saving and cut up the credit cards... *g*

Hey there -

Sorry to bug at your LJ, but though the WKA site seems to be up and running, I couldn't get the "email a question" function to work. (Could just be my computer, though.) So again, sorry for the dumb question here, but I couldn't figure out how to enter nominations for the best author categories. Thanks for any help!

Hi - you're not bugging me at all. Sorry about that - I completely forgot to link to the author nomination form. I also just discovered a glitch in it which I'm working on (should have it fixed soon! *fingers crossed*)

In the meantime, you could either use the main form to nominate an author (just put n/a in the required fields which don't fit) or if you prefer, you can email them to me at wka[at]moments-lost.co.uk

Oh, thank you! I didn't even think of the N/A thing. :) Thanks for your help - and running a great site.
