Brain? Stop it!

Niece is out of hospital as of yesterday - she's still teeny but she's put on some weight and is no longer jaundiced so that's got to be good.

I'm... not able to concentrate on any one thing right now (hence my failure to send back [livejournal.com profile] smhwpf's betas, I think they deserve my full attention Sam and I haven't been able to give them that over the last few days) I did manage to make animated icons over the weekend, mostly because although it's fun, it's also very time consuming and slightly mundane so it helped to keep my mind on one thing at a time. They're all from the SPN finale and are posted over at [livejournal.com profile] fandomsbitca.

And, mostly thanks to [livejournal.com profile] x5vale and [livejournal.com profile] iyalode I'm getting into the Dark Angel thing. To the extent that a song I had earmarked for a potential future Xander/Buffy vid has now taken on deep Max/Alec overtones. *shakes head* (vid bunny free to a good home...)

Today I shall be mostly taking a half day so that I can get myself caught up with things at home. Yes, it was a bank holiday weekend but I've been babysitting for most of it so my sink is full of dishes and my laundry basket is a little full... and that's before even getting into the missing meta essay, the missing betas, the missing stories for [livejournal.com profile] fic_variations (why is one of them insisting on being porny? Why dammit?), the missing graphics, the missing new site, the missing Sunday reports from Asylum...

Why do I always take on more things when I'm already working at maximum capacity?

So happy for your niece :)

*hugs*

And if you want to talk/ask/rant about DA you're welcome! I love Alec and the show :)

*hugs again*

*hugs*

I watched the Alec vid you posted on your journal earlier on, - now I'm trying to tell myself that I really need to actually finish everything that needs done before I watch any DA when I get home... *g*

I actually am so annoyed when I remember that I stopped watching the original screening of it after Proof Of Purchase - I'd been hooked up until that point and then just... wasn't anymore. I've caught up since and cannot believe I ever stopped watching it!

Let's say that the only thing which saved S2 was Alec...the script was much better in S1, but Da could have been a great show if it had had the chance.

[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com 2007-05-29 08:36 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, and don't even get me started on that Hallowe'en spoof-type episode they did - that was just... enough to make me doubt I'd make it to the end of the DVDs to be honest (and hey, no Alec in that episode, so you're completely right!)

It could have been so great, but especially after when Jensen said at Asylum about how work out Jessica was by the time he started on the show, it's probably as well it ended where it did. Although it's now driving me nuts wondering where it was all going to head next!

[identity profile] x5vale.livejournal.com 2007-05-29 08:48 am (UTC)(link)
I hated that episode, plus no Jensen in it!

Jensen didn't even say everything, I did really appreciate how he handled that question. He's such a lovely, polite, respectful guy.

Glad you've had some good news about your niece.

I'm weird about DA. I'm not that fond of Max, yet I love the fic with Alex/Max entirely due to one author and Jensen in SPN.

Finally found a download of DA S1 & 2, provided it stays good I'm going to watch the whole thing ::crosses fingers::

[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com 2007-05-29 08:46 am (UTC)(link)
I'm kinda the same, Max strikes me as being too petulant for her own good most of the time, I'm far more interested in the supporting characters (and Alec being a major part of that...)

The ASHverse you recced me? I pretty much devoured the entire thing this weekend - freaked me out a little when the OC called Mara showed up (especially since the author has 'cast' Alona Tal in that role and I just met her!)! it's an incredible series - thank you so much for putting me on to it! (Any more recs more than gratefully received!)

Good to hear your niece is out.

[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com 2007-05-29 10:25 am (UTC)(link)
:) she's still so tiny! I guess it's because she still only three weeks old and everything, but sooooo small!

great news about your niece babe (and no wonder you've been distracted).

DA is splendid if you focus on Alec (or Ben) and Original Cindy, and presume them to be the main characters in the show. Although I must confess to a crush on Logan when the show was first airing over here, I've since recovered.

:)

I'm absolutely in love with the peripheral characters in this show, OC, Alec, Sketchy - hell, even Normal! (And yes, I did end up watching a couple of episodes instead of doing my laundry yesterday...)

Good to hear niece is well! And no worries about the betas, other things very much on your mind lately.

Why do I always take on more things when I'm already working at maximum capacity?

Hah! know the feeling. Sometimes I convince myself that taking on more things will inspire me to get things done. I think I've finally worked out that doesn't quite always work...

*hugs*

They will be back to you really soon - promise!

So glad you niece is out of hospital, I am sure she will go from strength to strength now.

Still attempting to get into Dark Angel, watched the odd episode but as none of them have had Jensen in didnt really hold my attention or make me dying to watch more, I keep planning on just watching Jensens episodes but that will take away from my enjoyment I am sure.

[identity profile] whiskyinmind.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 08:02 am (UTC)(link)
*hugs* thank you!

DA is an odd one to get into, but it's worth it in the end, the peripheral characters and the supporting cast really make the show and Alec? Well... he's Alec...

Yay for niecelet being out of hospital!

It's scary when the small people are poorly, one because you love them and two because they are so small it doesn't seem that they are big enough to be in hospital (if that makes sense!). Both my niecelets had to go into hospital last year - one had an accident and needed an operation and one was poorly and needed to be put on a drip. It's horrible the feeling of powerlessness you have, but as one of your other posters said, kids are resilient and far more robust than they look.

Enjoy your afternoon off - and make sure you fit in some 'Sho watching cute men' time as well as dish and clothes washing time!

x

They're so tiny and they seem like they're so helpless and vulnerable. And to make it worse, they can't really tell you what's wrong. But yay for them all being well again!

I actually didn't watch any of the cute men yesterday (except for a repeat of Bones that was on while I was making lunch - that Zack is kinda sweet... *g*), but I did get hooked into watching more Dark Angel again (season one, pre-Alec)

Hey Mara! (: I am so sorry to hear that your neice was sick and in the hospital. I was away from the computer for the weekend and I did not know. I am so happy that she is doing better and that she has been released from the hospital and sent home. I hope that she will continue to do well. Anyway, (hugs) and I'm happy to hear that she is feeling better.

Thank you - she dropped around 12% of her birth weight and was quite badly jaundiced so they took her in and had her under a UV lamp and on a drip. She's still really small but on the other hand, she was 22 days premature (her due date is actually tomorrow) so I guess it's too be expected that she will have a few bumps in the road like this. Everything's fine now though - she's doing really well.
