Being decidedly unproductive
I'm having a very lazy day. A *very* lazy day. I was awake about 8am but stayed in bed reading until my sister phoned just before midday. And I'm not planning on doing anything productive at all today. I wanted to, I wanted to make graphics or get this damn SPN Het fic out of my head and onto paper before it eats my brain, but I'm feeling lazy and Harry Potter's on ITV and they look so ickle...

But I did want to say something, I've been in fandom for a long time now. A longer time than is probably healthy for me. (Multiple fandoms that is)

I've seen a lot of people who called themselves (or were called) BNFs (Big Name Fans, for those of you of a non-fandom inclination). And you know what? No matter how many people they have on their friends list, or how many reviews they have on stories, or how many people know their name, in a couple of years people will be saying "Who?".

Trust me on this.

One person's BNF is the next person's 'Who the F*ck?'

BNFs come and go, and tend to fight and struggle when their moment in the spotlight fades, but fandom goes on.

"They'll never know how tough it is, Dawnie, to be the one who isn't chosen. To live so near to the spotlight and never step in it. But I know. I see more than anybody realizes because nobody's watching me. I saw you last night. I see you working here today. You're not special. You're extraordinary."

(and yeah, I'm aware that if I was a different personality type then with the number of sites I run I could be a candidate for BNFery, but I'm not - I'm a fan of fandom and I show that by giving fandom a haven.)

True. Can't imagine there's much room on the Falcon for toiletries. Or toilets, for that matter.

Ew.

Dude, know your fandom. They aren't toilets, they're 'refreshers' or 'freshers' for short... and given that we both work in a Uni and have a different use for the word 'freshers' I think I may have just revolted myself...

They're pretty filthy too, it has to be said. Hence all the disease they spread.

This is very, very true.

Volunteering for the Freshers' Fair this year are you?

*g*

(disclaimer: this does not in any way relate to [livejournal.com profile] kitty_cat89 or [livejournal.com profile] smeckles90...)

D'you think they'd be able to spare me? Since there'll only be three of us minions left by the time FF comes around again, I'm starting to think we'll probably be chained to our desks to prevent us taking time off at all...

(*waves* to [livejournal.com profile] kitty_cat89 and [livejournal.com profile] smeckles90 who are obviously spotless in all respects...)

Laura seemed keen to get people to volunteer (and trust me, dude, I need all the support I can get on that damn committee - I *nearly* quit the other day but decided to bring it down from the inside).

I say yes, go for it.

And then bitch and moan about how blown up parrots and snakes have bugger all to do with libraries so that even if I can't change things this year, I've got a foundation for change for next year.

Not that I'll be there next year...

*grins*

I...decided to bring it down from the inside.

Take a pin. That should put an end to the inflatables...

And here's to not being there next year! Cheers!

Dude...

you may have just solved my problems!

Annette's still keen to go with the jungle theme, which is a complete corruption of the original "Lost" based suggestion that [livejournal.com profile] engelsteorra and I came up with a while back.

And how the hell did Annette get to take over anyway?

Damn, I wish I was one grade higher sometimes... that way I'd actually have a fighting chance against her. (I like Annette, honest, but if she asks me one more time how to use Photoshop or Front Page when that's her freaking job, I may have to kill her).

*scratches head*

You could try using the pin on her as well. Anyone with an ego that overinflated would probably spin around the room a good five or six times whilst making protracted fart noises.

</bitchery>

Still a bit grumpy after getting woke up so darn early. Garrrr....
