technical personal site question
Taking the time I'm ignoring real life to catch up with my online stuff and I realised I haven't actually updated my own site with half of the things I've written/created lately. It's 'cause I'm lazy to be honest, and even though I love working with code, updating an already existing page is kinda dull.

So... I'm halfways towards considering implementing a blog on the index page which will be quicker to update. I toyed with this idea before and used a programme called Cute News for a while, but got so much spam on it it's beyond the joke. So my question is this: should I embed a blog on the page, and if so what's the best one to use? I guess I could embed the [livejournal.com profile] fandomsbitca LJ on there, but I kinda like being able to control the page design better than LJ does. I was leaning towards WordPress but I've never used it before - anyone out there in LJLand used it and have any reviews on it?

Or, if anyone has any other suggestions, I'm all ears!

Also - please go go nominate at the Salt & Burn Awards? We're doing better and the quality of the nominees is kinda awesome, but the quantity... isn't.

Cheers!

(eta or maybe I shouldn't even be thinking of coding right now since it took me four attempts to get the HTML right on this post!)

The nomination link is broken, hon. It's directing folks to (dot)awards instead of (slash)awards.

And I swear, I'll figure out who to nominate soon! I will!

Trying again to reply. Fixed thanks! Been meaning to email you - how do you feel about judging this year?

I could probably take on a category or two, sure.

Awesome! (I gave up trying to post via my phone and have it plugged into the computer now - let's see if that works better!

I wish I could help with your site, but I'm not a tech sort of person.

I messed around with my own wordpress install a while back and found it to be pretty cool. I haven't checked out the wordpress.com option so I don't know how that works but as for the do-it-yourself version, it's cake. Download, upload, unzip. There's a text file to edit with database names and passwords and that's pretty much it. And as a result, you can have a basic blog setup or a content management thing or whatever you want. There are a gazillion different themes out there and they're all highly tweakable. The interface is quite usable for those used to blogging. Most of the same options as LJ + a few more. And no worries about censorship etcetera.

I checked after I posted the original and found that my webhost is offering wordpress as a 'one-click install' option. I'm sorely tempted to give it a try.

I'm wondering if I could have a really basic theme and maybe have it on the page as an iFrame so that all I would have to do is implement color code changes and keep the layout of the site the same.

My mind knows what I mean to say here but it also knows I'm not translating well.

Strangely enough, I found that a wordpress blog was actually customizable enough that I didn't need the frames. There are just so many possible permutations to play with.
