*sporks eFiction*

There's a security update that needed done on all the eFiction sites, I did four yesterday. Two worked, two didn't. Of the two that didn't one of them was my own archive (pointless nostalgic) and I think I may have lost it all. (What do you mean 'didn't you back it up?' - have you mistaken me for someone who actually thinks sensible thoughts like that?) Working on it, no clue how to fix it since the site key number has now been erased. At least it wasn't INAP.

Still looking for input on which (if any) sites I should keep/delete. here's the poll

And before [livejournal.com profile] smeckles90 does manage to get me fired for laughing at my desk, I'll leave you with a meme:

I think it means royal... )

I've been working on an overhaul of the sites I run for a while now, some of you know this already and some of you don't really care. Thing is, although some of them seemed like a great idea at the time, the interest has dwindled and they're sitting there like dinosaurs on the verge of extinction. So I ask you this, are there any of the sites which you would not want to see go, are there any that you think should go, and are there any that should I decide to give them up you might be willing to take on?

I should say that there are some sites I am not going to be getting rid of for the forseeable future, but for the sake of finding out where the interest lies I'm including everything in the poll.

Running an auto-archive site can be really rewarding, but it can also be a lot of work and stress in unpredictable ways. So if you want to take over one (or more) of the sites, have a think about if you actually have the time to devote to it.

poll under the cut )

ETA To clarify - two of these sites are currently works in progress and haven't been *officially* launched yet. Also, I ran a security update on some of them yesterday and there's been a bit of a screw up with two of the sites. I'm working on it. (my own archive (pointless nostalgic) and Spirit of the Heart are the two affected)

Yes, I am late launching the sites. That's because my FTP programme hates dial up. Plus, apparently it hates my email as well. Sorry. I should be back on broadband by the middle of next week so I'm thinking the remaining three sites will be launched as one next weekend - with another to come at a later (originally mid-March but potentially a teeny bit towards the end of the month) date.

I hate dial up. I've mentioned that, right?

I've been skimming my flist (will read it fully when I can) and realised that some of you are not having a great time right now.

**huge hugs to all of you**

It does get better, honest. (says the woman currently undergoing both psychological and psychiatric therapy and taking medication to stabilise her mood swings...) No really, focus on the good and while the bad might still be there, it doesn't seem so important any more. It will get better.

*hugs flist*

And today's site launch is a surprise prompted by [livejournal.com profile] lmzjewel - hope you like it honey!
This is not a pairing I've ever really written - save for a short stint in an RPG alongside the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] emeraldswan - but it is one I love seeing explored. So please, come on over, sign up, share the love! Key to the Heart

Well, actually a relaunch. Unfortunately when my domain was hacked last summer I lost all of the content on the database for this site so it really is starting from scratch. But I know that I've missed this place, and from some comments I know a few of you have as well. So, fanboys and fangirls, shout it from the rooftops - Effects of a Troubled Heart is back baby!
Come on over, sign up, and lets get those Faith/Xander and Faith&Xander stories back out there! I hate dial up... have I mentioned that yet today?!

A while ago, in fact I think it was originally over a year ago, I proposed the idea of having a site dedicated to the Slayers of the Buffyverse. Not as one part of a pairing, not as alternate universe characters, but as Slayers. How that affects their lives, how it changes them, how it marks them, what it means to them.

I've been playing with this idea since that day and now am ready to go with it. So ladies and gentlemen, fanboys and fangirls, may I present Daughters of Sineya. The archive is currently empty and only you can change that - come on over, sign up, upload your stories!

All stories are accepted so long as the primary focus is on the Slayer. Pairings are fine, so long as the pairing is not the focus. I've organised the archive by Slayer to make it easier to navigate, but only you can help with that by submitting fics to it.

and yes, you might have gathered that I seem to be launching a new site per day...

I posted this as a news item over at INAP but I have doubts about exactly how many people read the news items so... I'm posting it here as well.

INAP is in the process of being upgraded. I've done pretty much all I can do without taking the site offline but now I need to do just that. So, for around an hour on Friday morning (9-10am GMT) the site will be unavailable. Please, please, please make sure your last submissions are made by 8pm on Thursday night so that I can clear the list. Reviews and comments will also be switched off while the upgrade is ongoing, this is because I need to make a backup of the entire database so anything that gets added to the site after I've taken the backup will be lost.

So, the main points:

  • I Need a Parrot is going offline on Friday morning from 9-10am GMT
  • Submissions will be switched off at 8pm Thursday 22nd.
  • Reviews/comments will be disabled on Thursday 22nd at 8pm.
  • If everything goes according to plan, the site will be back online at 10am Friday 23rd with new submissions/reviews/comments being accepted from that time.

I'll also be letting the other admins know about the changes to the structure of the site, it will look different because the current layout doesn't support some of the new features, but I'll keep the changes to a minimum.

ETA - all times mentioned are GMT. I'm doing the upgrade first thing in the morning so that the disruption is kept to a minimum.

I can't get into the sites at all right now. It may be a glitch, it's a time out error so it's not me or a suspension - seems to be a server problem.

The good news is that Thunderbird is no longer timing out on me when trying to connect to the mail server at moments-lost so *hopefully* that means the rest of the server issues will be resolved soon.

(42,000 words.... most of it is - as we say in this part of the world - shite, but dude! 42,000! Plus, the basic story is still rocking my socks!)

eta see? Knew as soon as I posted it would be sorted.

Sorry for bothering you - normal service has now resumed.

I've updated the Christmas Invasion site (Did you miss me?) with the DVD caps which are a much higher resolution than the previous ones. And. I've been busy.

here's to the slow path is the new The Girl in the Fireplace related site. All that's there are the caps on the gallery page and a *very* brief synopsis of the plot on the episode page - more will come tomorrow!

sample caps )

Before I go - another quick fic rec. Couers pluriels by Neth Dugan - spoilery for GitF.

So you know already that I have a screencap site for Bewitched, Bothered & Bewildered over at [ chalk it up to hormones ] right?
Well, I've been toying with the idea of having more screencap mini-sites/galleries like this and with my recent obsession over Doctor Who, it seemed like the perfect time to go ahead with it. So, may I present:

...moments captured...

including the Doctor Who portion of the site here

Specific episodes:
Did you miss me? - the Christmas Invasion
Your New New Doctor - New Earth
Something of the Wolf About You - Tooth and Claw
Let the Lesson Begin - School Reunion. (yes, yesterday's episode...)

*huge grin*

The extras and episode sections are a little on the bare side at the moment, I will be updating them throughout the week and will hopefully have a mini-site up for The Girl in the Fireplace next Sunday!
