huh?
s'up with Firefox? it's looking particularly screwy - especially on the search boxes - and there's no horizontal scroll bar, and when I open a new tab it's not showing as a new tab. S'there I think, 'cause when I close the browser I get the 'you're about to close x open tabs. Are you sure?" message.

I should be updating automatically but has there been a critical update or something? I don't wanna use IE....

Strike that last, when did 2.0 launch? Must've been a little while back 'cause it's 2.0.0.1 now. S'fine now, although I don't know why my automatic updater didn't pick up on the change, but hey, can't have everything.

(I slept in, I've had no breakfast, I have nothing with me for lunch, and I haven't taken my meds. This is going to be a *fun* day)

ETA Ooo! [livejournal.com profile] iyalode?! A couple more Dean/Jess icons just got posted here by [livejournal.com profile] carmendove!

what's the point of printing one paragraph and then degrading into a streaky illegible mess for the rest of the page? And then doing exactly the same on the next page?

My eyes are hurtin' a little from looking at the screen, I was planning on maybe printing this part out and doing some of it longhand, but since the printer's not working...

Oh, and Studio 60? It's 'Corrine' Bailey Rae, you say it like it rhymes with 'Colin'. (decent episode though, mostly)

ETA *apologises to printer* okay - so normally you tell me when you're out of black ink, how else am I supposed to know? Am now printing out in blue ink and everything's fine. Yay! I can go curl up on the sofa and write there! (Have I mentioned how much I miss my laptop?)

second edit I'm kinda in a writing flow right now and just put on another pot of coffee. Was waiting for it to drip through and glanced outside. It's dark out there...Dude, where did today go? It's half past nine already! And I have a full pot of coffee in the kitchen... I guess it would be a shame to waste it wouldn't it? Guess I'll be staying where I'm at and writing then. *g*

My laptop, she is broken...

or at least, not working right now for some reason... Brought it in today to get some of the stuff done for the Freshers' Fair, plugged it in, switched it on, heard it try to start up, saw the power light go on, saw a couple more lights and saw nothing on the screen...

Anyone know more about hardware than me able to tell me if there's an obvious place to look for a loose connection?

ETA googled around a few techie support forums, my laptop is a Toshiba Satellite which - as well as having the crappest DVD drive known to computing kind - apparently has a common problem of the display not working because of two things. One, the connector cable is too short so it pops out after opening and closing the top a few times, and Two, the inductor thingy that lights the plasma burns out. Either way it's going to be a repair I'm not comfortable doing myself and the warranty's up so it'll cost more than I can afford right now. So I guess I'm without the laptop for a while then.

No you can't bloody 'send report' to Microsoft to tell them about the problem! Know why? 'Cause the laptop is not now and never has been connected to t'internet!!!

*grumbles*

I'm having serious trouble with my laptop (and yes, it has just ended its warranty period - whoddathunk?) As well as having the crappest DVD drive known to computing kind, now the display drivers are freezing up on me. I can find all sorts of forums and chats about it online, but not one of them has any kind of advice that seems to work. Most of the time it's people tutting and saying 'having trouble with your ati2dvag driver? Join the club'... What's happening is that I'll be working on something, or watching a DVD on it, everything freezes then the screen resolution goes to less that 600x400 and an error message comes up saying the display device driver has stopped working. After every ten minutes. I have to restart every time. Which means I have gotten no further along with the vid and have seen the first ten minutes of the third episode of Blackpool about eight times so far today. (And as a result have both 'Brilliant Mistake' and 'Boy with a thorn in his side' going round and round my head...)

Figured, I'll hook up the laptop to the 'net using the broadband modem for the PC, get the drivers update and download all those lovely XP updates at the same time, of course I can't find the disk to install the bloody modem! So... I was planning this anyway but it was a long-term plan. I am going to network my PC and my laptop. I don't care about wireless, in fact I'd rather not have wireless because my neighbour's a cheapskate and will probably try to get into my network. Thing is, I know absolutely nothing about networking. Anyone out there willing to talk me through it on a 'networking for dummies' basis? Like... what kind of thing do I need to buy and where can I get it? Is it just a cable and the set up will walk me through it?

(Software I get, hardware? Nope. Complete gibberish to me.)

Or, y'know, if anyone knows of a way to fix the drivers without me connecting the laptop to anything else?

ETA so I've just bought this. It should be here by the 19th so imagine much flailing on that particular day either because it hasn't turned up or because it has turned up and I broke something trying to get it to work. :)

*fingers crossed* I think my computer is back on its feet again! I managed to not only open Thunderbird last night, but also download a bunch of emails (about 70% spam - gah!) and then send an email! ([livejournal.com profile] thedothatgirl - did you get an email from me last night?) Woo, and indeed, Hoo!

I also managed to open Photoshop long enough to trial out some stuff on it and, while it was running slow, it was running. So *hopefully* I'm back in the land of the working-computer-having again! (which means I can announce the [livejournal.com profile] zeppo_stillness winners tonight - finally!

Other news, I'm not feeling particularly healthy today. I'm on a bit of a health kick at the moment (seeing photographs of me always does that...) and I've been eating kinda properly over this week - so why do I feel like I'm about to throw up at the slightest provocation? And it's not just nausea - there's the whole jaw-tightening thing going on (that's not just me is it - not to get too graphic about it and put you off your breakfast, but with me the difference between 'feeling' sick and 'being' sick is that odd way my jaw tightens. Or am I just being strange again?) I have very little to do at work today so if I keep my head down I should manage to make it through the day. Hopefully.

Should have some writing ready to post this weekend by the way, if not Final Straw (which it should be) it'll be something else that's been eating my brain since last weekend. :)

Oh! Just remembered - part of the thing I was trialling on Photoshop last night was the colouring on the WKA icon that [livejournal.com profile] jgracio asked about a textless version of - I don't have the original file but I can re-create it for you JG - just want to ask, what especially about the icon is it you like - is it the colouring or the cropping? :)

ETA ROFLOL! I was chatting to [livejournal.com profile] monkey_matt there about my rewatching of Angel (starting at City Of...) and I told him a little of what was said about the follow-on films at the convention last weekend (the films will *not* be happening, Amy Acker and J August Richards confirmed that). I'm not going to say any plot lines or anything, but there was talk of who the big bad of the first film would be. Monkey goes back through to his little office and I get this from him by email: Shoot them, shoot them now. Set traps and poison. Don't let the little buggers breed. Apparently everyone knows when a plot bunny bites me now!

Still no proper email yet - and no programmes at home that actually take any longer than two seconds to boot up. (Yes Photoshop, I'm looking at you. Grrr.) And... I have yet to see Doctor Who. I set my video for it over the weekend but it didn't tape - apparently it was running late anyway so I would still have missed it - but all I got was the blue screen. Huh. Could this be Sky's way of convincing people to pay for Sky Plus? (Kinda like TiVo) Can't afford it, not going to pay for it. And with my computer being the way it is I can't download the episode so... tomorrow night, BBC3. *sigh*

Got my photos from the weekend back - some came out pretty well, some kinda crappy. I need a longer zoom lens for the next con I think! I have them uploaded here right now - these are the full size images straight from the CDRom 'cause I couldn't resize them with no Photoshop. Once the computer's back to normal I'll sort through them properly and crop out all the annoying heads of people who kept moving in front of me...

Really must get back to writing again - I owe at least two thousand words on Final Straw for tomorrow (I want to have more but 2K is a realistic target I think) - and I have some major bunnies rampaging their way through my brain right now. It's not helped by the fact that I clicked on the [livejournal.com profile] _end_of_days link the other day and started reading some of the posts again. Man there was some good stuff in there that really needs to be resolved...

I actually have very little to say right now - if I haven't got my email sorted out by tomorrow night I'll be sending the WKA winners notifications out from gmail - since it's web based it should work... In theory. (My gmail account is faith.misplaced by the way, so if you see a random "Congratulations!" email in your inbox from faith.misplaced over the weekend then it's not spam.*g*)

Right, I'm rambling now so I'm off to go do something productive like download usage stats that no one will look at... :)

My laptop is better for capping TV shows at the moment, my pc just keeps freezing up on me and jumping about. So yesterday I was capping quite happily, and sorting the files as I was going. All the files are fine but I have one more show to cap today and... my laptop won't start. Well, actually it starts, loads up, tells me there's been a problem, flashes up a whole page of technobabble that stays on screen for precisely .25 of a second (not enough for me to read it) and then restarts.

And goes through the whole thing again.

And again.

And again.

Can I kill my laptop now?

ETA Meant to say - I've posted some Cordelia graphics to [livejournal.com profile] spring_of_cordy - here

I need to rename a large number of files (jpegs - screencaps) so they're in a specific format (letters-xxxx.jpg where the xxxx are sequential numbers starting from 0001)

Is there an easy way of doing this that works as a batch and doesn't put other characters in there (the XP fix adds brackets which screws up my formatting)?

:)

And adding in a song lyrics meme just 'cause I'm bored...
