Firstly - the WKA votes have now been verified (after I spent far too long faffing about with an Excel spreadsheet and trying to work out why it wasn't totalling properly. Me and Excel? Not friends...) I'm in the process of collecting graphics for the banners and hope to have the winners announced at the end of the week.

S&BA - I need to email the judges today, I cloistered myself away this weekend and then realised that I didn't contact anyone. Sorry about that girls - expect an email in the next hour or so!

Now the big news!

Gotta Have Faith awards

The Faith Awards site now not only has a name, but is open for nominations! I'm desperate for judges since this will be a partly judged/partly voted for site. If you're interested either comment here or email the site: faith.awards@moments-lost.org

And, as if that wasn't enough for a weekend's work...

Fulcrum - a Leverage fan reference and resource site

The Leverage site is now open... kinda. The only content on there at the moment is the transcript for the Pilot which [livejournal.com profile] robinyj has compiled. I've been toying with the idea for this site for a while now, and when Robinyj asked if anyone knew where she could post her transcripts, it seemed the perfect time to get going with it. I'm working on content for it now, but if anyone has anything they'd like to contribute - character profiles, actor bios, episode guides, pictures, graphics, transcripts etc - please email the site at this address: fulcrum@ moments-lost.org

*phew!*

Thank you to my wonderful flist who suggested the name 'fulcrum' by the way - a lot of you quoted Archimedes at me when I was pondering and this is the result!

Now I'm off to email the judges at S&BA and start downloading all the fics I have to judge as well.

(the icon's new btw, I would say this was a GIP but with everything else I've had to post about... *g*)

ETA CROSSOVERS!!! Balls - hang on, I'll go add that category to the Faith site. Anyone with a cool name for it gets a drabble of their choice written for 'em in appreciation!

me and databases are not friends. I don't understand them, I don't particularly want to. Right now I'm sitting here with an Access database (I know - what the hell am I playing at?!) which I created last night to collate all of the nominees with their contact details. I'm not even halfway through and already I'm bored.

This is one of those times when I really, really, really miss being online at home. There I could go make a cup of tea, watch a vid or two, then come back and start again. Here? I have to get it all done in less than two hours so there's no stopping for tea.

Joy.

Of course, if I'd kept it updated as and when nominations came in it would be a whole lot easier right now but then, where would the fun in that be?

(guy beside me just snorted, I think he was reading this - hello!)

There's no reason for this icon, I just hadn't seen it for a while. (Speaking of - 195 icons?! I only just hit my limit and they increase it - this is a good day!

Oh? And [livejournal.com profile] acrazywench? *tacklehugs* I'm fine sweetie, I promise you.

ETA Woo and indeed hoo! I've completed the contacts databases, two people I can't find emails for, but I have 7 minutes left so it'll have to be in the morning I email folks.

Also - [livejournal.com profile] thedothatgirl? The thing we talked about for the AVAs? I haven't had a chance to look yet - in the morning, I promise!

I have a question for the computer minded among you who use Excel. Even though it's evil.

The picture below is a screencap of the document I'm working with. I copy/pasted the info from a website which is chock full of back/forward buttons. I selected the sheet, cleared the formating in all cells and did a bunch of sorting and other things. Now... if you open the screencap (it'll open in a new window/tab) you can see the little blue arrows. They aint in a cell. I need to be able to get rid of 'em.

Anyone know how I can salt and burn 'em?

(I've tried inserting a row, moving the contents of the cells to the new row and deleting the pre-existing row but all it did was move the arrows down a little...

Help?

not sensitive data, but this is why I hate Excel... )

ETA So I have no idea how or why, but it seems to have been fixed. I selected the entire sheet, copied it (intending to paste into a text editor and save as a .tsv (tab-delimited) file so I could import it back into Excel) and thought I'd try pasting it into a new worksheet. It only pasted in the data I wanted and all the weird graphics have stayed on the first sheet. Excel is ev0l I tells ya!

Thank you all so much for your help and advice! Now wish me luck for the rest of the afternoon when I have to track down 1324 URLs and check the holdings dates are accurate. No really, I love my job...

...
and I was doing so well as well... I came into work this morning with an open mind (well, as open as I could with my history in this place) and a determination to knuckle down and get on with work. I cleared a whole bunch of stuff and now, about five minutes ago, have come to a grinding halt.

This coincided with the first instance this morning of me having to open up one of my boss's Excel documents.

Excel is teh Ev0l, clearly. It has sucked all my willpower into the screen and is mocking me with its rows and columns and ability to add numbers without having to picture the sum in its head (yeah, I suck at maths and can barely do basic additions without a calculator if it doesn't involve making change). And to top it all I'm on a caffeine break - as in, I'm taking a break from caffeine. NaNoWriMo kinda scared me with the amount of coffee I was drinking, especially over that last week. Kidding myself by using a cup instead of a mug doesn't work if I still drink the entire pot and then immediately make another pot... :) so no caffeine for me today, or at least until my head explodes.

Excel and no coffee, this is hell isn't it?

Oh - almost forgot - new start in the office this morning, the boss takes her round and introduces her to us all and says after she leaves my desk "Shona's just back from a two week holiday so she's a little happy right now". And I'm not normally? Actually, wait, don't answer that...
