Nominations are still open on the site and will remain so until this weekend coming.

We are desperately short of nominations in the following categories:

Humour
Dark
Romance
Het

All other cateogories are still accepting nominations as well, but those are the most in need at the moment.

Pimping of the site would be awesome too...

Taking the time I'm ignoring real life to catch up with my online stuff and I realised I haven't actually updated my own site with half of the things I've written/created lately. It's 'cause I'm lazy to be honest, and even though I love working with code, updating an already existing page is kinda dull.

So... I'm halfways towards considering implementing a blog on the index page which will be quicker to update. I toyed with this idea before and used a programme called Cute News for a while, but got so much spam on it it's beyond the joke. So my question is this: should I embed a blog on the page, and if so what's the best one to use? I guess I could embed the [livejournal.com profile] fandomsbitca LJ on there, but I kinda like being able to control the page design better than LJ does. I was leaning towards WordPress but I've never used it before - anyone out there in LJLand used it and have any reviews on it?

Or, if anyone has any other suggestions, I'm all ears!

Also - please go go nominate at the Salt & Burn Awards? We're doing better and the quality of the nominees is kinda awesome, but the quantity... isn't.

Cheers!

(eta or maybe I shouldn't even be thinking of coding right now since it took me four attempts to get the HTML right on this post!)

Due to some personal issues I've not been able to launch the awards as planned. They will still be running this month, but the launch date is currently scheduled for Monday 6th July.

Sorry for the delay guys.

If anyone is interested in being a judge this round (or any future rounds) please let me know.

I made a wallpaper yesterday, it's relatively simple for me (only took 11 layers not counting text) Eliza Dushku promo shots from Wrong Turn - Bullet Proof (i wish i was)

Am also gutted that Andy Murray didn't make it to the final, even though I like Roddick and am pleased for him. The good thing is that [livejournal.com profile] hopeless_cynic and I won't have to fall out over the final (She's a Fed fan, if Murray had gotten through we'd have been on opposing supporters camps) and as such can use up the last 12 texts on my phone cheering on Roger.

Only one day left to get in your nominations for the White Knight Awards!

Go on... you know you want to!

and speaking of... )

I've contacted all the nominees so far, if you're on the list and you haven't got a message from me, I'm so sorry - let me know?

Still looking for judges for the S&B Awards btw - if you're interested, please let me know? And I know I should be at home right now setting up the new layout for that site, but that would be a sensible thing to do. I'm not exactly sensible am I?

The Faith awards site will be going ahead by the way - as a hybrid pop choice/judged site for which I'm also looking for judges... (and suggestions for site names other than Five by Five Awards because that just seems a little too obvious to me.)

(this time I'm managing to stagger the awards sites so I'm not making banners for them both at the same time!)

The Salt & Burn Awards will be opening up for nominations at the start of July (I haven't worked out the date yet - it depends when I can get online for long enough to ensure it doesn't crash). We need judges.

Judges are assigned a category/categories and required to read each story nominated in that category. They are then asked to compile a rating for each story based on a formula and criteria which I (as webmistress and chief judge) will supply to the volunteers.

We are looking for judges who will do their best to remain as objective as possible; and we are desperate for judges from all parts of the fandom. Gen, het, canon, AU, slash, wincest, RPS, angst, comedy - fans of all genres are invited to apply.

You don't need to have judged at an awards site before, you don't need to be a writer, you don't even need to be a regular reader.

All we would ask is that you love the show and are willing to read fanfic.

(if you are absolutely averse to reading fic within a particular category, you are perfectly welcome to request that in your application and we'll accomodate you as best as we're able.

To apply to be a judge, please either reply to this post (comments screened) or email awards @ salt-and-burn.org with the following details:

Name:
Contact email:
What you would prefer to judge:
What you'd rather not judge:
Why should you be a judge?:

my example under the cut for guidance )

Thank you!

What. The. Fuck?!

I can't get into Salt & Burn. What the hell is going on?!!

Right, so I have a problem with Salt & Burn.

The domain registration has lapsed and the company I'm with for UK registrations is crap. I have a huge favour to ask.

I've cancelled the domain with them, I've registerd the domain salt-and-burn.org with my current host company, but I would like to have something up at the original address to redirect people to the new domain once it's up. (Which it won't be for a couple of days apparently).

The problem is, I have no method of paying for anything online anymore. Would someone on my flist be willing to help me out by making a credit card payment for which I will of course pay you back? I'm not sure how long the cancellation will take before it can be re-registered, but this site is the cheapest I've found for redoing it. It's definitely not going to be more than five pounds (£5).

I hate asking for this, but I swear I will get the money to you.

Salt & Burn Awards Readers' Choice winners will be announced tomorrow not today.

I'm personalising the winners banners and one of the files I saved yesterday to review the fic was corrupted when I got home. So I have it now (uncorrupted, I checked) and will be doing that one tonight.

[livejournal.com profile] kitty_cat89 - thanks for your help on the text earlier, can I count on you to keep schtum as to the title/author of the fic in question until I post it? Thanks sweetie!

[livejournal.com profile] thedothatgirl you should now have a long-overdue email from me. I suck. I'm sorry. *hugs*

Glancing through my flist before I posted this has been kinda spoilery already, so until I catch up to 4.20 I'm not reading. (I know the latest ep to air was 4.21 but I'm further behind than you'd believe right now.) I have up to 4.20 at home, but I'm also going to be busy this weekend, so it might not be 'till Monday before I get to see 'em.

Please to be linking me to your news?

Niece's birthday in two days. She'll be two. I have a tenner to buy/make her a present unless my benefit comes in early. There's no toy shops in the village and the shops we do have are aimed at crafting-tourists and are therefore not cheap.

Any ideas what a two year old girl would like? (She's a big fan of that Monsters Versus Aliens film if that helps. Yes, I've now managed to make all four of them SF fans. Hee!)

sometimes, like right now, it feels like my life's on hold. Sorry for my absencityness (what? It totally is a word!) and my weirdness lately.

S&B Awards banners are being made right now (I'm here to finalise some details on the winners before completing them and posting them tomorrow). AVA BotB awards are waiting entirely for me to get my act together and get my final list to [livejournal.com profile] thedothatgirl. I wholeheartedly apologise to everyone for the delay in this. I have reasons, but they're not excuses. Sorry.

I read over the fic I wrote in my stupor at the weekend and with some tweaking it's not too shabby. In fact, it kinda needs to be longer and have a full 'case' feel to it, rather than the quirky vignette it is at the moment. So, I'll be working on that some more once my other obligations are out of the way.

Speaking of obligations, and knowing this is probably a mistake*, Dark Angel fic fans - can you rec me some Logan Cale fics? Any/no pairings, any genre, any style. I's just like to get a feel for how other writers tackle him in fic since I've previously focused on the X5s. Thanks!

* a mistake in the sense that reading too many other writers' take on him has the potential to make me doubt my own take on him.
