So, the one morning I knew I had a million and twelve things to do first thing, I actually slept. Gotta love that irony right there.

Gotta Have Faith nominations are now closed. The categories with only a single nomination will carry forward to the next round.

White Knight Awards voting is now closed - I'm collating the votes and will get the winners announced as soon as possible.

NaNoWriMo started eleven hours ago and, since I've only been awake for about 30 minutes, I haven't written a thing yet.

Now I'm going for a shower, I'm going to make a very large pot of coffee, and then I'm going to get stuck in.

Wish me luck y'all!

Scaphoid is not fractured - huge relief - carpal is. So I don't have a broken hand, I have a broken wrist. Bugger.

The pain is getting easier to cope with though so it's not as bad as it could be.

Other things - NaNo is currently standing at 3,312 words which is below target but since I started late I'm not too bothered. I will probably start posting it somewhere next week.

In prep for it, I've been re-watching Angel s5. Man I miss that show! I got to 'Hole in the world' last night - and wept.

And I've started being able to listen to Steve with a smile on my face again. Various reasons, mostly to do with bad memories, had robbed me of that simple joy - and if you know how much I love music, you'll know how much joy I get out of my favourite performers.

I'm smiling now.

And I'm back on full strength meds - still have to tell my doctor that. Ooops!

eta - what happened to [livejournal.com profile] lmzjewel? Ruth? Honey, is everything okay? (*feels awful that she hasn't seen it before*)

Sorry I flaked on posting to this filter. I hit a couple of days when I didn't write anything and it felt almost as though I was letting you all down. I know that's stupid, but at the time it made sense in my head.

What that did do, was make me knuckle down and write. And write. And write. I'm prouder of what I have written this year than I was in 2006 (the last time I won). This feels like a coherent story which only requires editing a little to make it readible. It does need a serious edit before it gets good, which is why I've held off posting the later parts. I'm working on something else (and you guys can be the first to know - it's a Neverwhere/Buffyverse crossover tentatively called "Don't Forget Your Key") to get me back into the frame of reference of actually writing something other people want to read, and then I'll work on DKoK and post it.

Thank you all for your support over the last month - although I didn't make as much of this filter as I thought I might, knowing you were there and supporting me through this has made this awesome.

Thank you all!

What the hell happens to my inner ear in winter?

real life stuff behind the cut to free up the space for the WKA news )

ETA The White Knight Awards nominations are coming in thick and fast now, which is awesome, but we are a *little* short in some of the categories. Specifically those listed below. Just to let people know, in case the news hadn't bled out yet - you can nominate yourself. The only limitation I'm putting on that this time is that you cannot vote for yourself. So if you've been holding off nominating then please - go right ahead!

I'll be in touch with all the current nominees over the next few days (my graphics muse has bitten the dust for the moment and I want to have new buttons for nominees - anyone who would like to contribute, you would be my hero!), but there's still plenty time to nominate!

Categories which are low in nominees:
New Author
Slash Author
Het Author
Overall Author
Academically Dangerous (School-centric fic)
Bad-Ass Vamp (Xander-as-vampire fic)
Sometimes I Shouldn't Say Words (Xander dialogue in fic)
Guess Who Just Got Mean (Darl!Xander fic)
All About the Journey (Series)
Drama (I never did come up with a clever name for that category!)
Flying Buttress of Support (best use of Xander as a secondary/supporting character)
I Like the Quiet (Just Xander)
Yanni CD & a Bottle of Chianti (Romance fic)
Viking in the Sack (NC-17 fic)

Of course, all other categories are looking for nominees as well, so please, head over and get nominating!

Also, I am looking for judges to help with screening and with the possibility of giving a 'Judges' Choice' award. If you're interested please let me know either here or by emailing the site at wka {at} moments-lost.org (please note that pairings of all kinds are allowed, so if you will not read a certain thing please let me know)

THANK YOU!!!

You know the amazing thing about having nothing to do during the day is that when I start writing, I don't tend to stop until I either fall asleep or there's a power surge. (There's been a few lately, word to the wise - save your work often!)

So... on the 19th November, 2008, I reached 50,000 words on my NaNoWriMo project. I'm now at 54,500 (ish) and am at a 'chapter end' as it were. So I'm calling it quits* now and am editing to make it into a comprehensive story with actual contractions and less adjectives. Once that's done, I'll post it complete and continue on with it until the story is done.

I'm dealing with things in my personal life in a way which I don't really feel ready to share just yet, so as I said earlier this week, I'm here, but I'm distant. I'm debating whether to do a festive wishlist post this year, it seems a little redundant when there are so many things I need to post a list of wants. But, if you have done a wishlist please link me to it here so that I can gather them all in one place!

My boy's in the country just now, to those of you going to see him - have an awesome time. I wish I could be there but...

Now I'm going to try to catch my family on the school run.

* calling it quits, not quites. Because that would just be silly.

Okay, so I'm definitely doing NaNoWriMo this year, I have very little else to occupy my time right now so I'm going for it all out. Here's the question though, since my time online is limited, and I remember 2006 how stressed out I got about it (not to mention extremely highly caffeinated!), I'm going to create a NaNo rambling filter. This will not be the writing itself, instead it will be a place for me to ramble and flail and sound out plot points/ideas. As such, the latter part may make it spoilery for the end story which will be posted publically. So, if you want to be on the 'good grief does she never shut up about how hard it is to write 2000 words a day?!' filter, speak up now or forever hold your peace.

[Poll #1280896]

If you'd rather wait to read the story without seeing the blood, sweat, tears and copious amounts of coffee that went into it that's cool too!

Remember, this is not whether you want to read the story, this is whether you want to be in the 'writer's room' as it were.

I slept in this morning. Well, actually, I was awake before my alarm went off, I switched off my alarm and then went back to sleep. Which meant that of course I didn't really wake up until just before ten am. There's only one train an hour from my village and it leaves at three minutes past the hour. So I phoned into work, told 'em I'd slept in and would be in as soon as I could, and got the next train. I've now been in work for... oh, about 20 minutes? So because I overslept that little bit, I've lost a whole morning's flexi time. Ah well, guess there'll be a few 6pm finishes for me this week then!

I also have yet to see 3.07. I started to watch it yesterday, saw up to the point where I was thinking "That's Harmony, right?" and then switched it off. I... have never done that for an episode of SPN yet. I was in a bit of an odd mood yesterday, I was offline all day, I made a huge pot of soup, a big pot of chilli, more biccits (I should put the recipe up here at some point once I'm done tweaking it (I added ginger yesterday)) and started on another scarf. I'll watch the episode tonight when I get in, and I am looking forward to it based purely on the pre-credit teaser, but...

NaNoWriMo... I think I have more or less given up on that this year, the story is working, but the words aren't coming anywhere near as quickly as they should be. I'm kinda at the stage where, to make the word quota, I'd have to write 4000 words a day. Doable, but... my heart isn't really in it this year. Too many other ideas keep grabbing my attention and when they turn out as good as do not go gentle... then I'm pretty happy with that. (Yes, I'm abandoning all pretence of false modesty about that story. I really like it, I think it probably is the best thing I've ever written - Her Own Path came close, but dngg... is just more... of a gut punch.)

So, I'm now working on brainstorming for the [livejournal.com profile] whichwillow ficathon assignment, and the two prompts I've got for [livejournal.com profile] spn_christmas (and I kinda have my eye on another one in there which would act as a pair for one of the ones I've already got, if it remains unclaimed I may also write something for it)

And something else. Which is a complete and utter departure for me. Something I always said I'd never do. but...

Yay Home!

*looks around*

Okay, my house looks like it's been burgled but on the plus side, it looked like this last week. I really should tidy up a little, maybe get the dishes done before the new lifeforms forming in the sink take over the world. Yeah... I should, but right now I'm sitting watching the Rockford Files and posting to LJ. Yeah... that works!

Had a wonderful time this last week, spent most of it at [livejournal.com profile] wenchpixie's place to celebrate her birthday, [livejournal.com profile] kitty_cat89's birthday, and the assimilation of [livejournal.com profile] _doodle and [livejournal.com profile] hopeless_cynic into the joys of living in Scotland.

I did something this week which I think in retrospect may have hurt some of my friends. I meant what I said, I stand by it, but I shouldn't have been so blunt or sworn. To the people involved, you are and always will be my friend. Part of being a good friend is pointing out the things that need to be pointed out. Part of being me is that sometimes - a lot of the time - I do that in a way that can be inadvertently hurtful. I'm sorry if I hurt you, or angered you, or caused you any more distress.

That needed to be said, and no, I won't go into details because it's between me and two other people, so I'd appreciate it if it could be left alone now.

NaNo - still at zero, but talking to [livejournal.com profile] wenchpixie and [livejournal.com profile] _doodle in Wench's kitchen yesterday has re-ignited my love for the story I was writing last year. Paths Crossed. I've checked the rules, and it's okay to continue an ongoing story so long as it won a previous NaNo round - which it did. So, a week into November, I'm starting again. But the plus side is this: I love this story, I know this story inside and out, I know it can be written and I know I can do it. *grins*

Now I'm off to attempt to catch up with the flist and get some housework done before I start writing.
