Still with the toothache...

Ouch.

(I'm not registered with an NHS dentist, none in the area are taking on new patients, and I can't afford to pay for dental treatment.)

Eating lunch earlier (an omlette for crying out loud...) the pain hit so bad I thumped the table and broke the plate. (Yeah, that may also explain why I keep buggering up my hand as well...) I honestly don't know how long I can put up with it.

Ow.

Anyways, I know I haven't posted anything about the London weekend two weeks ago (dude, TWO WEEKS!! How did that happen?!) it's because my poor old computer is getting old and cantakerous and is having 'issues' transferring pictures from my camera. *pets computer* It was an awesome time, not just because Steve, Rosalee and Darren were awesome as always, but because I got to spend time with friends in person - I didn't realise how much I'd missed that until I got home and realised that for a week the only people I spoke to were shop assistants and library staff. I will post about it and share pics soon - promise!

But never mind, the real reason for posting right now, and for posting with the icon which might seem a tad odd until this: I'm going to VAMPIRE BALL! Yay! (Or at least, I've just put an order in and am waiting for confirmation... *starts worrying*). It feels like forever since I was at a con as an attendee not staff! (Don't get me wrong - I LOVE working at cons, but at the last two Asylum's I saw a total of two panels.)

Plus? CHRIS!

I don't know if I'm going to be working at Asylum this year, I have emailed Wayne about it but apart from a question over Easter weekend I haven't heard back. I'm disappointed because I had a lot of fun working with the Rogue crew (I know some of you have issues with the way the cons are run, but they're good folks and really do try to make things as smooth as possible - plus, you have to admit it gets better every time) ad thought I did a good job for them but... there's still time, Wayne's a busy little really-quite-tall bee and there's still a month to go so...

Right, since I forgot to bring my pen drive with me to the library (sorry Cat, got your message about the landscape thing but don't have any relevant stock, it'll be Tuesday before I can get you a second draft) and the sun is splitting the trees out there, I'm going to go and try to avoid the funeral at the bowling green across from my house. :)

Scaphoid is not fractured - huge relief - carpal is. So I don't have a broken hand, I have a broken wrist. Bugger.

The pain is getting easier to cope with though so it's not as bad as it could be.

Other things - NaNo is currently standing at 3,312 words which is below target but since I started late I'm not too bothered. I will probably start posting it somewhere next week.

In prep for it, I've been re-watching Angel s5. Man I miss that show! I got to 'Hole in the world' last night - and wept.

And I've started being able to listen to Steve with a smile on my face again. Various reasons, mostly to do with bad memories, had robbed me of that simple joy - and if you know how much I love music, you'll know how much joy I get out of my favourite performers.

I'm smiling now.

And I'm back on full strength meds - still have to tell my doctor that. Ooops!

eta - what happened to [livejournal.com profile] lmzjewel? Ruth? Honey, is everything okay? (*feels awful that she hasn't seen it before*)

Okay, so it still hurts to type and I won't be doing it for long. Here's what's happened:

Saturday night, got very very very drunk and decided it would be a good idea to cover one of the walls in my living room with bad poetry.
Stood on a stool. Fell off that stool. Landed with my hand out. (I remember how I did it now)
Sunday, slept throught most of the day.
Monday, realised the bruise at the base of my thumb was pretty serious and pretty sore.
Tuesday, went to the doctors. They told me ther was a good chance it was broken and sent me to A&E (got a lift).
Got XRayed, got strapped up, got painkillers.
Wednesday, really uncomfortable so I went back to the doctors. They told me I had probably fractured my scaphoid bone and I had to go back to A&E. Since it was late afternoon and I knew I couldn't get a lift, I let the nurse restrap it so it was a bit more comfortable and went home.
Thursday morning, got the train into the 3 Towns (10 minutes), got a bus into Kilmarnock (Where the nearest A&E is) (1 hour).
11:25 - triaged, asked to wait as there was no available treatment room.
11:40 - saw an ENP (Emergency Nurse Practioner) and put in queue for XRAy
11:45 - XRayed (painfully, they kept moving my hand into new and painful positions to make sure they got the angle they needed)
12:10 - Spoke again to ENP who confirmed that although there's no obvious fracture on the scaphoid, it can take up to 14 days for that to appear. Also confirmed that there's a chip out of one of the carpals in my wrist which was why the strapping I got on Tuesday was uncomfortable.
12:15 - Given a splint this time and an appointment to go back next Thursday for another round of XRays to confirm the scaphoid issue.

*sigh*

Drinking is for losers. On the plus side, the NHS Accident & Emergency at Crosshouse Hospital are fantastic. Even if they are over an hour away from where I live by public transport. Sometimes I hate living in the vast acres of nowhereness like I do! So yeah, because this really is kinda painful to be typing, I won't be online much for a while. Link me what I miss?

*hugs*

So last night I was making dinner, took the casserole out of the oven, dished up, picked the plate up, and brushed the side of the casserole dish with my knuckle.

Bloody hell that hurt.

Tiny brush, barely a touch and yet there's a pretty deep burn mark there now.

Why does my body hate me? (My neck problem's flared up again - I have an extra piece of bone on one of the vertebrae and it traps the nerve, causing a lot of pain.)

Right now I'm putting it down to the weather turning, but seriously, why does my body hate me?

What the hell happens to my inner ear in winter?

real life stuff behind the cut to free up the space for the WKA news )

ETA The White Knight Awards nominations are coming in thick and fast now, which is awesome, but we are a *little* short in some of the categories. Specifically those listed below. Just to let people know, in case the news hadn't bled out yet - you can nominate yourself. The only limitation I'm putting on that this time is that you cannot vote for yourself. So if you've been holding off nominating then please - go right ahead!

I'll be in touch with all the current nominees over the next few days (my graphics muse has bitten the dust for the moment and I want to have new buttons for nominees - anyone who would like to contribute, you would be my hero!), but there's still plenty time to nominate!

Categories which are low in nominees:
New Author
Slash Author
Het Author
Overall Author
Academically Dangerous (School-centric fic)
Bad-Ass Vamp (Xander-as-vampire fic)
Sometimes I Shouldn't Say Words (Xander dialogue in fic)
Guess Who Just Got Mean (Darl!Xander fic)
All About the Journey (Series)
Drama (I never did come up with a clever name for that category!)
Flying Buttress of Support (best use of Xander as a secondary/supporting character)
I Like the Quiet (Just Xander)
Yanni CD & a Bottle of Chianti (Romance fic)
Viking in the Sack (NC-17 fic)

Of course, all other categories are looking for nominees as well, so please, head over and get nominating!

Also, I am looking for judges to help with screening and with the possibility of giving a 'Judges' Choice' award. If you're interested please let me know either here or by emailing the site at wka {at} moments-lost.org (please note that pairings of all kinds are allowed, so if you will not read a certain thing please let me know)

THANK YOU!!!

What? It's totally a word!

I have an owie. My neck is absolutely killing me, it's on the other side from the known problem so I figure it's just a normal crick, but it's bloody sore... (doesn't help that I dropped my phone earlier and tried to catch it thereby jerking my neck really quickly and really badly). Plus, I have a really bad bruise on my arm that I have absolutely no idea how I got. It's not sore, but it's very... vibrant. I'm falling apart really.

But I'm over the bloody moon right now! Not only do I really have the best friends (hence the previous post - Sorch? You are just... amazing! Thank you again - it deserved a post all on it's own but I can't stop just... thank you!) but I finally got an email from my prior employer to say my P45 is on it's way. Thank. F*ck.

And? I'm fic researching. Seriously, I haven't felt like doing anything productive for months, and now? I have a notepad beside me with a detailed outline and some research topics. Yay!

Now all I need is to find a new job and get my house sold (not necessarily in that order) and things will be back on track.

Now something I haen't done in a while - a meme!

ETA Dude... I just got loads done - wads of research, applied for JSA (Job Seekers Allowance), got details of a job really local to me that I could do in my sleep (waitressing/restaurant staff. Did you know I used to work in a kitchen? *g*), and actually spoke to people. And I still have a half hour left on the computer - weird!

second edit *pouts* I forgot SCC was back... *bats eyelashes at Wench*

The cold that's been threatening since Asylum has kicked in, I spent all day yesterday going from bed to the throw-covered couch to bed again. It was a really pretty day yesterday and I was supposed to be spending some time with the kids in their garden - which I love doing. When else can a *mumblemumble* year old get to play swing ball without a) being drunk; or, b) looking like an idiot?

But alas, I was left snuffling and coughing and generally feeling like death warmed up.

Babysat for them on Saturday though - eventually finding out at 5 that I was needed at 6 (and could I stop and buy some things for dinner on my way up the road...). My sister's an hilarious drunk. She doesn't go out a lot anymore, and she's not been drunk for years. She can't handle her drink any more. It's hilarious. Oh, and apparently my brother in law doesn't understand how I could have staffed at the convention because he just doesn't see me as anything other than Sis' quiet little sister. And that's my problem how? (That's not completely true actually, he sees me as having an impressive cleavage as well - to the extent where I don't wear v-necks when I go to their house any more.)

I couldn't get online on Saturday at all so I've had to default on my [livejournal.com profile] spring_with_xan day, which sucks. Thanks though for your prompts on Friday - I'll be having a go at them soon in an attempt to make up for it!

Right, I'm aware right now that I'm snappy and irritable and finding the little things annoying so I'm going to go have a cup of tea and actually do some work.

eta work rant not normal curcumstances my arse )

Also? Coriander tastes like soap. Marks & Sparks? If you put it in a chicken salad I will be able to taste it, so why don't you put it on the damn label so I don't buy it? (Coriander is silantro, btw, I'm spelling that phonetically 'cause I've never seen it written down, what with living on the civilised side of the Atlantic... *g* - Cilantro - thanks [livejournal.com profile] geminilove_ca!)

not just a cough and a sore throat now, this is definitely a cold. And I'm at work.

yay

Have a bunch of stuff I was going to do/post about but my brain has gone all tangental and I can't remember half of it. I do know that I need to contact [livejournal.com profile] acrazywench, [livejournal.com profile] thedothatgirl and [livejournal.com profile] stir_of_echoes by the end of today.

I'm also going to be posting up a Sarah Connor Chronicles reaction post at some point today - saw the finale yesterday and I don't want to spoil anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

Also updated my userinfo, it's a work in progress while I make a tiled background for the left hand column (or decide I hate that idea and change it again). I linked to all the working sites on there. There's 10. And there's more planned. So much for me cutting back, huh?

Okay, my brain is about to go boom so I'm going to leave you all with this nonsense to sort through and make sense of at your leisure.

Back from the nurse now, my sports strap is fantastic because it's thicker and more supportive, but it's too short. So I'm back to tubi-grip which isn't supportive enough, but can go further up my arm to support the bit that needs supported most. And I've to not do anything with that arm apart from the exercises I've been given because the more I do with it, the longer it'll take to heal. Which sucks.

But anyways... I'm going to go write now, because I can, and because I have a ... scenario rather than a story in my head now and have had since last Saturday morning. Have to get it on paper or my brain will explode.

re-watched Torchwood, liking it more now although I still want to spork Gwen. Straw poll (and since I'm on Semagic and not the LJ poll page, it'll be a yes/no. Would the people not in the UK prefer me to continue to put all Torchwood (and DW when it returns) comments behind a cut? I kinda love being in this position for once...
